Fourteen pairs contested the annual King’s Weekend bowls competition at Coco Club Resort on Dec. 5-6.  The tournament saw two leagues of 7 pairs with teams from Bangkok, Chang Mai and Pattaya taking part.  It soon became evident that a competitive 2 days was ahead as all matches took longer than the allotted time, giving the bowlers a real value weekend with the games starting at 9 a.m. and not finishing until 8 p.m.

The A league was very tight on the first day with 6 from 7 teams all within one point of each other.  The B league produced 3 teams with a maximum 6 points and sent 2 of them on their way to the semis-finals.

Day 2 continued and it seemed that Num and Vinai had had a good night’s sleep and they started to race away from the pack, but Eng and Nong came back and made it a Bangkok one-two at the top of the A League.

In the B League it become much closer with Dennis and On taking the lead and 3 teams chasing the runners-up spot, but it was relative newcomer Nit, with her eyes on a Thai team place, and another Dennis who snatched the last semi final place for Pattaya.

The semis were a little surprising with the probable favourites losing and leaving Nit and Dennis to face Num and Vinai in the final, with the Bangkok team taking it 12-6 over Pattaya.  It was a long competitive weekend but very friendly and played in a super atmosphere.
