PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, June 30, Burapha – Stableford
High cloud and a cool breeze greeted the 12 Outbackers who played the A and B loops from the white tees, which resulted generally in some better than average scoring and all but one player returning 30 points or more.
It is always difficult to pick the tee of the day; some prefer the blues which are a bit long for the higher handicappers, whilst the whites tend to be a little bit short. So generally we try to alternate the tees from one week to another, personally I think while there is run on the course we should always play off the blues.

Dennis Pelly struck the ball sweetly to record a great 43pts to win from Burapha regular, Jimmy Little on 38, with Barney Clarkson taking third place on 37pts.
Dennis and Jimmy had the only ‘2’s.

2nd Jimmy Little (18) 38pts
3rd Barney Clarkson (25) 37pts
Tuesday, July 1, Laem Chabang – Stableford
Three groups here at Laem Chabang, where they have just started renovations on parts of the clubhouse and changing rooms; indeed as we arrived they were hastily putting up signs to the temporary areas, including the Pro shop. Management and marketing were all outside directing the prospective golfers of the day to the right areas.

During this time of remodelling, they (Laem Chabang) have reduced the green fee for the next three months, an opportunity not to be missed, and in keeping with this the Outback will be switching to Laem Chabang every Wednesday and moving the options of Bangpra or Khao Kheow to Tuesdays.
Murray Hart is on a short break between his workload and made the most of his round today to win comfortably by four with 40pts from Andy Brady (36). Sugar Ray played his last game before returning home for a few weeks and squeezed into third on 35.
Today was also Nuan Keddie’s birthday so she made the most of the day and thoroughly enjoyed herself, which culminated in a party back at the Outback that went on quite late into the evening.
Once again, Ron Dickie and Andre Coetzee played from the blue tees, whilst everyone else played from the regular whites.
Tony Garnett got the only ‘2’.
1st Murray Hart (14) 40pts
2nd Andy Brady (16) 36pts
3rd Sugar Ray Handford (19) 35pts
Wednesday, July 2, Bangpra – Stableford
The field of ten for our fortnightly visit to Bangpra arrived to find a quiet course in excellent condition. The weather was also great, if a little hot and the day look set for a good round.
All was tickity-boo until our leading 3-ball caught up with a group which was just content to amble. At the halfway stage we asked the marshall if he could speed them up which he duly did but they (the group) were reluctant to call our first group through but did eventually on the par 3 twelfth. However, they refused to call any other groups through as the rest of the field stacked up behind, thus spoiling a few cards and hence perhaps the lower than average scoring.
Kerry Beck did the business with a fine 37pts off his 12 handicap, with Peter Nixon a distant second on 31 and Suzi hung in there with her 29pts to grab third.
Kerry Beck got the only ‘2’.
1st Kerry Beck (12) 37pts
2nd Peter Nixon (10) 31pts
3rd Suzi Lawton (23) 29pts
Friday, July 4, Green Valley – Medal
Today we had a field of 32 players playing in our monthly medal, which was kindly sponsored by Greg Hirst of the DeVere Financial Group.
The course played well with no less than 12 players recording their handicap or better, resulting in a competition scratch rating of just 69. However there were two exceptional scores; David Davies, playing off 23 returned a net 64, which was awesome considering he had a ten on one hole and we felt for a long time he would be the winner. But playing in the last group was Nick Odnoral who somehow managed to pull out all the stops to go one better to return an amazing 63. Nick had five birdies on the front nine, one of them being just a little tap-in to show us how it was done.
Murray Hart took third with 68, Kev Waycott fourth with 69 and Greg Hill the last podium place on 70. The low gross was won for the second time by Rick Evans with 74.
Finally, welcome to the boys from Bermuda; Heinz, Mike, Alistair & Dave who are here for a 10 day golfing holiday organised by the Outback, which they started on Thursday at Waterside.
There were six ‘2’s, two from Nick Odnoral (5th & 8th), two from Dave Buchanan (8th & 12th) and one each from John Lawton (8th) and Rick Evans (16th).
1st Nick Odnoral (14) net 63
2nd David Davies (23) net 64
3rd Murray Hart (14) net 68
4th Kev Waycott (9) net 69
5th Greg Hill (19) net 70
