PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Wednesday, Sept. 11, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Thirteen Outbackers travelled up to Khao Kheow to play the B & C loops off the white tees due to all the rain we had the previous night.

This was the first time we had played here for quite some time and it was nice to play on the re-opened B nine.  The course in my opinion seemed in good shape and the speed of the greens varied between 8.5 on B and 10.5 on C, so the putting took a few holes to get the feel for; however there is still quite a bit of GUR around generally but this didn’t really interfere with one’s game.

The staff were very pleased to see us again and depending on the feedback from today’s players we will consider putting this course back on our schedule.

John O’Keefe put Monday’s poor round behind him and came out with all guns blazing, scoring a magnificent 44 points to win by one from another astonishing score of 43 from Aussie visitor Jim Graham.  More characteristically for this course, Geoff Stimpson was third with 37 ahead of Andy Makara on 35 in fourth.

Finally, we said goodbye today to Barney who enjoyed his extended stay in Thailand and I have a funny feeling it won’t be too long before he returns.

There were two ‘2’s from Geoff Stimpson (B8) and Andy Makara (C3).

1st John O’Keefe (14) 44pts

2nd Jim Graham (34) 43pts

3rd Geoff Stimpson (8) 37pts

4th John Fitzgerald (19) 35pts

Wednesday, Sept. 11, Siam Plantation – Stableford

A field of three groups (11 PAX) played on the C & A nines of this cracking course and a level par 36pts from Chris Playforth was not enough to earn anything better than sixth place.  Two more players, another Chris (Smart) and Rick Forrest both scored 39’s and even they missed a podium place, although it was on count back.

Tony Pike won the day with 42pts playing off 9, with course specialists Rosco & NY Steve both firing gross 81’s, 41 and 39pts respectively, to take second and third.

Finally, and just to put the icing on the cake from this quality field, there were four ‘2’s from Rosco, Chris Smart & Mark Riggall (8th) and Steve Poznanski (12th).

1st Tony Pike (9) 42pts

2nd Rosco Langoulant (14) 41pts

3rd Steve Poznanski (12) 39pts

4th Chris Smart (29) 39pts

Friday, Sept. 13, Green Valley – Stableford

Heavy overnight rain deterred a few golfers from playing at Green Valley this morning but with one or two late entrants and omissions, 30 Outbackers took to the park.  In spite of continuing showers all around, very little actually fell at Green Valley.  Otherwise the course was in its usual good shape.

The two low markers, Ian Heddle (3) and Mark McDonald (4), demonstrated their golfing prowess and just why their handicaps are what they are, with an excellent 38pts apiece, Ian beating Mark on count back – 73 and 74 gross respectively.  Steady John O’Keefe took third place with 34.

The other end of the field, Div C, is where the top scores came from: two 40-pointers from our Aussie visitors Jim Graham, beating his friend Chris Van Hausen on count back, with Burapha regular Bob Lindborg in third on 38.  However, Jim and Chris will find themselves playing off lower handicaps on Monday.

Ken Hole, who has been struggling with his golf, was delighted to win Div B on 39pts, his best round for some time, with Eddy Beilby (36) second and John Stafford (35) third.

There were six ‘2’s from Ken Hole (4th), Ian Heddle, Joe Mooneyham & John Fitzgerald (12th), John another on the 9th and Suzi Lawton on the 16th.

Div A (0-14)

1st Ian Heddle (3) 38pts

2nd Mark McDonald (4) 38pts

3rd John O’Keefe (13) 34pts

Div B (15–19)

1st Ken Hole (17) 39pts

2nd Eddy Beilby (19) 36pts

3rd John Stafford (15) 35pts

Div C (20+)

1st Jim Graham (33) 40pts

2nd Chris Van Hausen (25) 40pts
