Monday, May 25, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

T1st Dale Shier (14) 39pts

T1st Ken Aihara (3) 39pts

3rd Mark Wood (8) 36pts

It’s déjà vu all over again as we return to RGV as our regular Monday venue.  We watch the progress on Silky Oaks and eagerly anticipate the new layout there which will give us a new 18 hole course later this year, and yet another 18 holes a year after that.  This place just keeps getting better and better!  More locals are members here at Green Valley than any other course in the area, and you can easily see why.

On to the comp, and today belonged to the locals.  I call Kenny a local now as he is here for half the year and in my book that qualifies him for that status in this town of transients.  Kenny had another fine round of golf but could not break the deadlock between himself and Dale Shier.  Nobody can complain when you turn in a card with a 39 circled on top.

Dale is resident here when not on some distant oil rig or killing time in some First Class airport lounge in Dubai, which is where he probably is right now.  Watching with bemusement was regular TGC player Mark Wood some 3 shots back, yet still good enough for sole third place on today’s podium.

Wednesday, May 27, Khao Kheow B & C (yellow tees) – Stableford

1st Mike Omiya (8) 39pts

2nd Bob Mulholland (8) 35pts

T3rd Dale Shier (14) 33pts

T3rd Chris Salbush (21)  33pts

T3rd Phil Smedley (10) 33pts

On the podium today, Captain Phil shared third place with Chris and Papa Dale who were all stuck on 33 points.  A couple of 8 handicappers were the real story of the day as Bob Mulholland did well with 35 points from the yellows but still found a gap of 3 strokes for the winner.  Step up Mike Omiya, fresh off the plane from the States and with little warming up he took today’s comp with a very respectable 39 points.

Friday, May 29, Phoenix – Monthly Medal

1st Arthur Barbara (27) net 67

2nd Fred Graham (16) net 69

T3rd Billy Eyles (17) net 70

T3rd Peter Rogers (21) net 70

T3rd Darren Stanton (21) net 70

A few regulars and a few tourists shared the leaderboard of our Monthly Medal at Phoenix.  It is great to have this lovely golf course back on our roster and it is proving to be as popular as it ever was.

TGC resident Darren Stanton, our Monthly Medal winner for April, shared third spot with Peter Rogers and Billy “The Hat” Eyles as all those lads did well with a net 70 on the day.  Fred Graham made just one more putt than those guys and a 69 earned him second place.

Our Monthly Medal winner for May 2015 was Arthur Barbara who had a decisive victory with a handy 67 net.  Arthur also wins one of our Antigua golf shirts embroidered with his winning star.  Hopefully, this will be the first of many stars, Arthur!
