IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Links Bar
Greenwood was the destination for the Pattaya Golf Society on Monday, 28th November. The course was in excellent condition and with few golfers already on the course the PGS groups had no problems negotiating the B and C nines for the stableford competition.
A close contest was in store with only four points covering the top eight golfers. Sharing third place were Masa Takano and Peter Wilson with 34 points, the latter again recording the best gross figures for the day, 81 shots, The joint winners were Larry Slattery and Dave Edwards, both on level par 36.
A trio of golfers shared the ‘2’s pot with Masa, Dave and Mike Davies targeting the C3, C6 and B3 holes respectively and back at The Links Martin Hoblyn was the lucky recipient of the consolation “cooler”, just the job after a hot, tough day at Greenwood.
Phillips finds his touch
The Pattaya Golf Society ended its month with a medal event at Bangpra on Wednesday, 30th November on an excellent course which was set up nicely. Competition was again fierce and the thick rough off the fairway and the difficult greens kept scores low.
Peter Wilson and Steve Truelove shared the gross honours and third place with 84 gross each, giving them both net 77. The winner was Welsh golfer Huw Phillips whose golf has been fretful since his return a couple of weeks ago. This day it was clinical and measured and his net 76 made up for some pretty grim moments in the last two weeks.
The ‘2’s pot was shared by Steve Truelove and Mr Len on the eighth and Huw joined them with a birdie on the twelfth.
Back at the Links the consolation beer went to Larry Slattery, winner on Monday but struggler today.
Ken writes new Page at Silky Oak
The Pattaya Golf Society played its final Friday fixture on 2nd December, before reverting to its former Tuesday-Thursday routine. The venue was Silky Oak and the course was in good condition except for slow and uncut greens which were a problem for discerning golfers. A strong breeze also kept the field comfortable whilst affecting direction and distance all around the course.
Scores were good despite the conditions and the ‘2’s pot was shared by Gary Bolger (6) and Ken Page (14) and both golfers had a say in where the main pool would go as well.
In third place was Gary with a steady 36 points on a course he enjoys playing. Englishman Mike Davies came second with 38 points, the score representing his best with the group for a couple of visits. The winner golfer Ken Page and he managed to play his PB round with the group, forty-one points.
Richard Dobson took the non-winners’ beer despite his sorrow at the demise of the Booby Bevy and everyone looked forward to a new regime of PGS golf starting next week.
