Tuesday, Dec. 12, Bangpakong Riverside – Stableford

The boys (and on this day girls, too) usually score well here and after being told we could take carts on the fairways even the ‘goldies’ among us looked forward to a good day.

Despite the fact that buggies were allowed on the course, the fairways were still wet in places and the grass tended to be a bit long.  Get into the rough and it was difficult to get out, however we did manage to get to the greens, only to find them a bit slow.

We had three flights and in the A Flight, 0 to 17, we had a great round and best of the day as Brian Parish had 46 points from a fine gross 74 to take the honours.  In second place was Mashi Kaneta with 42 points and Richard Kubicki placed third with 40.

In the B Flight, 18 to 24, the winner was Tom Herrington with 39 points on count-back over Mick Coghlan in second.  In third was Dick Warberg with 37 points.

The winner of C Flight, 25 up, was Dave Cooper with 42 points ahead of Torsten Bischoff in second with 40.  Barry Elphick took third with 39 points on count-back over Don Carmody.

The best consolation front and back nines for non-winners came from Joseph Buchberger and Don Carmody with 19 and 21 points respectively.

Friday, Dec. 15, Greenwood – Stableford

All three nines were open at Greenwood today and we played the A and C courses in no order due to a two-tee start.  The layout and greens were in good to very good condition, though fairways still suffer from too many creeping weeds.

The handicap formula treats Greenwood quite generously, and everyone found themselves with a few extra strokes to use.  With that you’d expect scores to be high, and they were.  With one exception, if you didn’t break handicap you were in the audience not part of the show.

In A-Flight (0-20), Rob Brown (c/h 12) once again won and also had the fewest strokes of the day with a fantastic 41 points.  Next Tom Herrington (19) continued his winning ways with 38 points, followed by John Hackett (18) with 37.

In B-Flight (21+), a different Brian won today as Brian Gabe (23) had the best score of the day with a sky high 42 points!  Then Barry Elphick continued his winning streak with a fine 37 points.  Graham Buckingham (27) was the lone non-handicap buster to get mentioned, taking third in his flight with 34 points.

Near pins went to Carol Kubicki and Dick Warberg while the longest putt on C-9 came from Barry Elphick.

Best nines (non winners) went to Torsten Bischoff and Richard Kubicki.
