PSC Golf from the Billabong Golf Bar
Monday, Feb. 26, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
It was an invasion from France today at Phoenix golf course. The caddies told us it rained all night there also but the course was as dry as could be with the odd wet spot but nothing to be concerned about. The course itself was in great condition and the greens were fast as.
Some players managed to play better than their handicap but they were mostly French. Nadine Goyons took fourth place on 36 points, Maurice Goyons was third with 37 and then there was an Englishman Ivor Smith in second spot, being beaten on count-back by yet another Frenchman in the shape of Thiery Petrement, both with 38 points.
Only two ‘2’s today, coming from Tom Parker and Maurice Goyons..
Wednesday, Feb. 28, Green Valley – Medal
The monthly medal sponsored by longtime friend Brian Chapman always stimulates excitement into our weekly venture on to the golf course. Fifty-two players were on the first tee for this last opportunity to qualify for the grand finals.
The ladies were in fine form again with Miss On missing out on third place to Miss Nuan, who had 8 pars in her round, both on net 68. Miss Lynn had 7 pars and 3 birdies in her round of net 67 but could not catch Miss Yen who had an inspired back-nine to win the medal with a net 65.
Eric Gobert was relegated to sixth place by Peter Thomas and John Fitzgerald, all with a net 74, with John winning the count-back by 2 shots on the return journey. Kevin Wild could point to two treble bogies for his third place despite 6 pars and a net 70. Bob Newell had a great front nine, dropping only 1 shot, but to take notice of his reaction to his back nine would give the impression that all was not well. “A game of 2 halves”, he said, but he still played to 4 below his handicap and a net 68. But the chasing peloton could not catch Irishman Tom Parker with a remarkable net 64 to win the day.
No 2s for the men but Miss Nu, Miss On and Miss Nuan managed birdies on the par-threes.
Friday, March 2, Burapha – Stableford
Burapha C and D for a pleasant change today and the course was packed with golfers from all over the world. It was a hot day out there with little breeze but with just 7 groups playing it just flowed for a round of just over 4 hours.
There was a count-back for second and third with Bob Philp being relegated to the bronze spot by Alan Beck, both on 38 points, but they were upstaged by the lovely Miss Sasicha with 39 points.
There were four ‘2’s, coming from Bob Philp, Arch Armstrong, John Locke and Brian Orr.
