The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society left Soi Buakhao on Monday, 6th August to visit Pattana for a stableford competition on the B and C nines off the yellow tees. The day was overcast and cool with a strong breeze but the course was in top condition with quick greens.
After nine holes scores were very good and quite a few of the field must have been dreaming of some success but some of the pin positions on the back nine were tough to navigate and returns became more realistic.
In third place was Garry Hookey with 35 points whilst it was left to Evan Millar and Seil Revels to share the win with 37 points each.
Neil McIntosh recorded the only birdie ‘2’ of the day, on C2. The Booby Bevy went to Mr Len for his highest split figures of the day, his eleven points on the back nine embarrassing his front nine total of twenty-one.
Pattana remains a firm challenge for any golfer and a tight competition normally ensues there.
Almost a PB for PB
On Wednesday, 8th August, the Pattaya Golf Society visited the fine course at Bangpakong Riverside to play a stableford competition. The course was superbly presented with lush fairways and remarkably consistent greens and for golfers on top of their game there was the opportunity to record excellent scores. and so it was.
The groups all got around in four hours maximum, which is a testament to the efficiency of the club and its condition.
Sharing third place were Robbie Taylor, Dave Edwards and Mr Len, all posting 37 points whilst second placed Masashi Iizumi closed his account this trip with a fine 39 points on the eve of his return to Tokyo. The winner was the gentle giant Paul Brett who almost matched his best round in the Kingdom, a composed 42 points at Crystal Bay four years ago. This time he put together a well managed round of 41 points to win the day easily.
The only birdie ‘2’ came on the thirteenth and was recorded by Wichai Tananusorn, who continued to stutter for the rest of the round. The Booby Bevy went to Mike Wilsher for his low score of the day and Andrew Purdie enjoyed the Boss’s free beer draw back in Soi Buakhao.
It had been another memorable golf day at Bangpakong.
Honours shared at Greenwood
The Pattaya Golf Society closed yet another week of golf on fine courses with a visit to Greenwood on Friday, 10th August to play a stableford competition on the C and B nines. The fairways are very good at the moment and the greens are recovering from the scorching of a few months back but are still quite slow. The big surprise saw an empty course yet again.
Competition was quite close and one four-ball provided all the contenders with Joe Niisato finishing on 35 points for third place and Anthony Molan and Dave Edwards sharing the win with 37 points.
There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Boss’s free beer draw was won by Mr Len with Dave Corrigan picked up the Booby Bevy for finishing his round after only sixteen holes.
Thus the PGS golfers ended the week in fine spirits, with visits to Bangpra and Khao Kheow on the immediate horizon just to help the holiday weekend go with a swing.
