Pattaya officials and community groups have begun drafting a list of sporting events that will receive city funding next year.
Praiwan Arromchuen, chairman of the city council’s Sports and Recreation Committee, met with sport-tourism officials and related organizations Nov. 13 to review this year’s projects and plan next year’s events.
Pradith Thongchai, head of the Sports Development for Tourism Office, said Pattaya funded 32 sporting events in 2015, ranging from the Pattaya Triathlon, Thailand Windsurfing Championships and Pattaya Marathon to the Color Run, Pattaya Bed Race, and Senior Football Challenge.
The list also included several events not sports related, such as the St. Patrick’s Day parade and Burapha Bike Week.
Praiwan said the city has a policy to promote sports and also send athletes abroad for various competitions. For youths, he said, it serves as an alternative to using drugs.
