Pattaya city hall says it expects to imminently announce organizers for this year’s Pattaya Marathon, but the field is likely to be capped at no more than 20,000 runners.
Pradit Thongchai, head of the Sports and Tourism Development Division Pattaya, told the media that there has been a great deal of interest from the general public in the event but as of June 1 the city had still yet to secure the services of race organizing company.
City hall earlier stepped in to accept race registrations in the absence of an official organizer but this led to its own issues, with the administration’s servers failing due to the number of registrars exceeding expectations. The process has now stalled until an organizer has been appointed, at which point the city says it will transfer over all the applicants it has registered so far.
This has left many athletes in limbo, not being sure if they will be included in this year’s race which is set to take place on July 15. Not surprisingly, complaints to city hall have been on the rise.
At present the number of participants will be limited to 20,000 but officials say this could change once a race organizer is installed and the situation is reviewed.
