Pattaya will host a walk-run event as part of its commemoration of Visakha Bucha Day on Monday, June 1.
Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon chaired a May 20 meeting to plan the activity with various running and health clubs and the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Pattaya Office.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘walk-run for meditation and making Visakha merit” to honor Lord Buddha and worship the Five Precepts. The event will also encourage people to exercise as June 1 has been declared “Runners for Thai Health Day”.
Physical exercise and meditation are on offer to participants at the annual Visakha Bucha Day walk-run event on Monday, June 1.
The races will commence at 4 p.m. for both the three-kilometer walk and five-kilometer run at the TAT Pattaya office. The route will take participants up and around Big Buddha Hill and back to the starting point by 6 p.m.
Soon after, people will join the “wien thien” candlelight procession at the School of Meditation at Big Buddha Hill.
The cost to join the walk-run is 150 baht, which gets participants a t-shirt. Runners finishing in the first 10 positions will win a trophy.
Interested runners can apply at the Tourist Police Office, Chalerm Laundry on Third Road Soi 12 and by calling Pattaya City Hall at 038-253-227, or can register at the start finish line on the day of the event.
