Following a recent complaint, the Bunker Boys scribe has decided to cease and desist from any form of mirth in future weekly reports so as not to upset those of a more sensitive disposition. Furthermore, he can’t afford to employ the services of Dave Galvin as defense council in any ensuing legal stoush.

A low season Field of twenty was on hand for today’s game at Pattaya Country Club, a very good number indeed. Pedestrian best describes the pace of play today, one feels that eliminating range finders would make a significant improvement. Also, people having in-depth discussions with caddies prior to every shot would help, one can’t help asking the obvious question, what would the caddie at their home course advise?

Gary Smith was the shining light today taking first place with thirty-nine points, an excellent score in the conditions. The Australian ambassador Robby Watts took second place with thirty-seven points showing remarkable consistency following his scores of thirty-nine and forty last week. First-timer Lee Rigby took third with a solid thirty-six points. Craig Dows was in the frame again with thirty-four points while Kevin LeBar rounded out the winners list with thirty-three. Near pins went to Bil Richardson, Jay Babin, Kob Glover of course, and Michael Brett.

Wednesday, August 23
Emerald Golf Course
1st Michael Brett (16) 38 points
2nd Geoff Atwell (25) 37 points
3rd Craig Dows (5) 36 points
4th Geoff Parker (20) 35 points
Near pins Geoff Williams, Geoff Parker, & Craig Dows X 2.

Today the Emerald course was in just about the worst condition that anyone can remember, the tee’s were ragged, the fairways mostly ok, but the greens were abysmal, barely playable, rough, bumpy, and sandy. It’s been a long time since the Bunker Boys played Emerald and after today it may be permanently off our roster. A field of fifteen was on hand, a reasonable number given the course is not everybody’s favourite.

Despite the condition of the course scoring was decent. After weeks with no game, Michael Brett found something today to take first place with thirty-eight points. One point separated second, third, and fourth and placed as listed. Geoff Parker, & Geoff Williams took a near pin each with Craig Dows taking two. Regrettably, it was the last game for the ever-popular Hubert Stiefenhofer who returns to his native Germany on Friday missing out on our trip to Hua Hin next month, hopefully he may be back in time for the club championship in December. As we approach the end of the month the Australian ambassador Robby Watts holds a commanding lead in the race for the golfer of the month, with only three more games in the month can anybody run him down?

A motley fourball at Emerald including Hubert, Michael, Craig, and Robby.

Friday, August 25
Greenwood B & C
1st Geoff Williams (9) 36 points
2nd Stuart Stammers (8) 35 points
3rd Mark Bishop (17) 35 points
4th Gerry Cooney (19) 35 points
5th Greg Berry (14) 35 points
Near pins Gerry Cooney, Craig Dows, & Geoff Williams X 2.

The last game of the week was played at the Greenwood course in bright sunny if a little breezy conditions. The course was in nice condition as usual although there were a few bare patches in place. A decent field of nineteen was on hand and the pace of play was fine with the lead group back in the clubhouse before 3.00 p.m.

A very respectable score sheet with a very tight grouping at the top. Geoff Williams in his last game of this tour took the honours with a score of thirty-six points, he also managed two near pins and was particularly pleased to get inside Robb Watts for one of them. By not attending the presentation due to a prior commitment he also made a very generous contribution to the delinquent fund. Four players ended with thirty-five points and were placed as listed. Gerry Cooney and Craig Dows got the other near pins. Greg Berry looked set to sweep all before him with a sparkling front nine, sadly for him the wheels fell off on the back nine, such is golf, it takes all eighteen holes to win.

Anticipation is building for next month’s long awaited trip to Hua Hin where we play Palm Hills, Majestic Creek, Black Mountain, and Springfield. It’s been at least four years since our last visit so everyone is quite excited at the prospect of a great week of golf.
