Staff and organizers at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya have been working around the clock as the club prepares to host the prestigious Optimist World Championship 2017 next week.  A record-breaking 62 sailing nations and 280 sailors signed up to take part from 11-21 July and this year is notable for the number of Asian countries taking their place on the starting roster after several years of absence.  They include China, Macau, Taiwan, Myanmar, Indonesia, India and the UAE.  Several teams will also travel from South America, including Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Chile.

Royal Varuna Yacht Club is located in the residential Pratamnak Hill area of Pattaya and the racing will take place immediately offshore from the club, between the mainland and Koh Larn.  With large facilities and strong infrastructure, the RVYC will welcome all sailors and spectators who can expect sunshine, warm water and good sailing breezes during the event.
