Area youths will face off using bare fists and weapons at the Chinese martial arts Pattaya Wushu Competition, being held Aug. 8 at the Pattaya School No. 8.
Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh met with Blue Disayabuth, president of the Wushu Federation of Thailand, and Thipchaya Pungchanchaikul, president of the Pattaya Wushu Club, on July 21 to finalize details of the 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. competition, which is open to all ages.
The competition will be divided into men’s and women’s singles and team brackets.
Wushu, a full-contact form of martial arts similar to kung fu, includes both bare-handed and weapons fighting. Individual contests at the Pattaya event will include sparring, short weapons, long weapons and Taiji.
Organizers said the competition offers a chance for Pattaya martial artists to show off their skills and also acts as a boost to tourism.
