With Green Valley being closed the lads traveled to the Emerald course and received our usual warm welcome form the staff; a swift check in and off to the first tee for a prompt start on a sunny day with a slight breeze making for comfortable conditions.

The scoring was of a very high standard today as all five podium spots were taken with players carding par or better.  Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw and Billy ‘the hat’ Eyles filled the minor podium slots, both with even par rounds with Billy just managing to edge Nick for the fourth slot in the count-back.  There was no count-back for Don ‘the ladies’ man’ Lehmer who retuned an impressive 39 points, but the calculator was required to sort out the top two players on the day, Bill Peach and Stuart James, who both carded 41 points.  As we all know it’s very rare to see Bill lose a count-back but Stuart was just as happy because he picked up a near pin and a half share of the 2’s pot to go with his second place finish.

It was back to Green Valley now that the Thai professional tournament has finished, and the course was in excellent shape but it was decided that ‘pick and place’ was required because of the vast amount of unrepaired divots left by the pros.  We had five groups today so two flights were required.

The boys in the senior flight were led in by Jimmy ‘AK-47’ Bell with a fine 39 points.  Jim was one shot clear of Scotland’s Mark Wood and this left pay-window specialist Tony ‘the glove Oakes to tidy the flight up.

The boys in the B flight were not to be outdone as they had their own 39-pointer in Howard Bland.  A count-back was required to sort out the minor flight places between Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw and Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake but Nick sang is way to the silver and left Barry with the bronze spot.
