PSC Golf from Colin’s Bar

Sunday, July 3, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Cheaten Patel (16) 42pts

2nd Fred Birch (22) 35pts

3rd Phil Davies (14) 35pts

14 players for today’s outing to Green Valley and overnight rain made the course very soft, so no carts allowed on the fairways and  the ‘lift clean and cheat’ rule employed.

Phil Davies, starting out in the first group retuned a solid 35 points to take third place on the podium, being edged out of the runner-up spot on count back by Fred Birch.  Both were surpassed by Cheaten Patel who had an amazing round of 42 points.  Cheaten also teamed up with Mark Haffenden to defeat Simon and Colin in a private match within their group, the latter two having to pay for lunch once again.

Tuesday, July 5, Greenwood B & C – Stableford

A Flight

1st Phil Davies (14) 36pts

2nd Karl Diekman (19) 36pts

B Flight

1st Manfred Hanke (30) 40pts

2nd Mogen’s Melander (26) 36pts

Near Pin: Phil Davies

Long Putt: Phil Davies.

A good turnout today for Greenwood and the good news is that they are keeping the rates the same for Colin’s Bar for July & August.  We had a little rain on the way to the course but when we teed off it had stopped, however the greenkeeper still turned on the sprinklers just where we were all lined up in the buggies, and after a few choice words he turned them off with a wry smile on his face.

Having made the podium on Sunday, Phil Davies went two better this time and topped the A Flight standings with 36 points, edging out Karl Diekman and Christen Boysen on count back.  Karl had a better back nine than Christen and so secured the runner-up spot.

Manfred Hanke, who gets better the later he gets home the night before, completely dominated the B Flight and won with an impressive 40-point return. Mogens Melander was some way back in second place with an even par round.

Thursday, July 7, St. Andrews – Phantom Cup

Due to a bit of bad planning the Phantom Cup took place the day after the PSC Summer Party & the Wales semi final with Portugal in Euro 2016.  We therefore had just 17 players turnout for St Andrews.  The course in excellent condition but some of the tees were back a bit from the normal positions.

Only 2 golfers broke their handicap and 1 was level while all the rest struggled.  A flight (0-18) was won by Ian ‘San Miguel’ Pickles with 37 points while and Christen Boysen was amazed to take second with just 30 points.

In the B flight (18-39), and in only his third game with us with hired clubs, Drew Peacock from Northern Ireland spread his wings and let fly, posting a measly 50 points together with a load of near pins and long putts and also taking the low gross with 81 shots.

Back at the Phantom Bar, Christen took over as M.C. as the scribe caught a cold in more ways than one, and went for an early bath.
