A public holiday today and we were at Eastern Star with the group divided into 2 flights; 10-15 in division 1 and 20+ in division 2.
The best return of the day came in division 2 with Iain Walsh winning with 37 points. Tony Holehouse was second on 32 and in third place Glenn King beat Rodney Howett on an 18/16 back nine count back after they both came in with 28 points each.
Treasure Hill (Div 1) podium: Martin Grimoldby, Terry Madsen and Lindsay Phillips.
Chris Voller was the winner in division 1 with 33 points, 1 ahead of Bill Bertram in second and Terry Madsen took third on 31.
Tony Thorne birdied the 6th hole for the only ‘2’ of the day.
Wednesday, July 24, Treasure Hills – Stableford
It was very gloomy as we headed up the 331 and the outlook became even worse as we turned into the course but everyone was adamant we start the round and we set off from the yellow tees 30 minutes ahead of schedule on a totally deserted course.
It was 5-18 in division 1 today and 20+ in division 2 and Tony Holehouse, playing off 23, took top podium position in the second division with 36 points. Speedy Gonzales, alias Pepo Frick, was second four points behind Tony and Gordon Everingham beat Colin James for third on an 18/15 back nine count back after they both came in with 30 points.
Martin Grimoldby was the winner in division 1 with 34 points and then there were three scores in contention for second and third places all with 29 points. A 17/17/15 back-nine count back ruled Chris Voller out of the placings and in the end Terry Madsen beat Lindsay Phillips on a 13/11 back-six count back, and there were cheers all round.
At 148 yards today the 17th provided a ‘2’ in division 1 for John Oxley and in division 2 one for Tony Holehouse, while nearest the pins were shared by Martin Grimoldby, Terry Madsen, Harry Vincenzi, Pepo Frick (2) and Jimmy Johnson.
Friday, July 26, Eastern Star – Stableford
A strong breeze coming off the coast today provided a tough test on some of the holes (especially three of the par 3’s) and this was reflected in the scores. After taking the management out last week to observe the course conditions there wasn’t much sign of real improvement, but we were told after the round that the course will be back to normal conditions for our round next Friday.
The cut today was 10-15 in division 1 and 17+ in division 2 and in his last game with us before a four month holiday in the US, the mad Austrian driver Pepo Frick topped division 2 with 37 points. Karl Flood came in second two points behind and Tim Hake was third with 29 points.
Ron Mathews won division 1 after beating Harry Vincenzi on a 14/12 back-six count back, both scoring 18 on the back nine and 33 points overall. Chris Voller was third with 32.
There are two rollovers in the ‘2’s now in division 2 to next Friday and one in division 1. Terry Madsen, Chris Voller and Roar Berger were the only players good enough to secure near pin awards today.
