Monday, July 29, Pattavia – Stableford

Geoff Wallace earned his second green jacket in succession as he turned in a great 39 points to be the top scorer at Pattavia as the “B” flight winner. Mike Firkin took his second podium finish in two games, with a nice 35 points, and while Colin Service thought his 34 points was a bit meagre, it gave him third spot on countback.
All easy there but “A” flight provided plenty of thrills when four players scored 38 points but there was only room on the dais for three of them. After close countbacks it was Dave Hewson who emerged on top while Kevin LaBar did well for second, beating off Les Cobban. Takeshi was the unlucky one to miss out but he did pick up a near pin as some sort of consolation.

Wednesday, July 31, Eastern Star – Stableford
1st Stuart Kidd (19) 37pts
2nd Toby Glass (12) 36pts
3rd Tip Briney (23) 36pts
4th Paul Smith (3) 33pts
5th Phil davies (11) 33pts
Twenty-four golfers made their way to Ban Chang to play a stableford competition in a single flight on a course which was reasonably presented.
Phil Davies held down fifth place with 33 points, losing on countback to playing partner Paul Smith whose 33 points represented the best gross of the day, 78. Wiley old Tip Briney enjoyed a third place finish with 36 points, losing on countback to runner-up Toby Glass. It was Tip’s penultimate round before taking a break in Egypt – plenty of sand there Tip!
The honours on the day went to Stuart Kidd who played some solid golf with the day’s only sub-par round of thirty-seven points, achieved by virtue of a monstrous twenty-footer on the eighteenth.
Near pins went to Paul Smith (3), Tip Briney (6) and Toby Glass (17).
Friday, August 2, Pattana – Stableford

1st Adam Barton (17) 40pts

Our first two three-balls played the front nine in good time today, then at the tenth (B1) a five-ball had been inserted in front of us. To be fair, they did move along very well and our first two groups completed the round in a tad under four hours. The number of players meant we were able to have two flights and the novelties.
The “B” flight saw Big Adam Barton return to the winner’s list with a great 40 points. Wednesday’s winner, Stuart Kidd, held that form to take second place with 38 points ahead of Ray Byron on 37. Merle Humphreys, in his final game this trip, took fourth spot with 36 points.
The “A” flight produced the star of the day as Derek Phillips was the tearaway winner with a very large haul of 43 points. Sometime cellar dweller, Derek, had one of those days we all wish for. As usual, Paul Smith figured in the placings, this time taking second place with 37 points to once again have best gross of 75. Bill Copeland and Paul Kennedy, both on 34 points, went to a countback for third with Bill having the better back-nine.
Near pins were claimed by Jim Reilly (A3), Mathias Hermann (A8), Rob Morrison (B3), Tom Herrington (B7).
