Monday, June 30, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Upon arrival today we were allocated the B and A nines and the cut was made at 7-19 in division 1 and 20+ in division 2.  It was a very pleasant day with the weather conditions almost perfect and the course in good condition, especially the slick greens and this was reflected in the scores.

Now playing off 7, Andy Mills lost out to Andy Crabb on a 20/16 back-nine count back for the top spot in the premier flight after they both came in with 34 points each.  Pepo Frick meanwhile was the winner in division 2 with 35 points and Rod Howett was one point behind him to take second.

Near pins went to Andy Mills, Lindsay Phillips (2), Roar Berger, Alan Bissell and Andy Crabb.

Wednesday, July 2, Burapha – Stableford

Today we had a normal two division stableford competition but also a pairs-multiplier where you paired one person’s score from division 1 (1-16) with another player’s score from division 2.

The favourite A course was closed today for major renovation and we were playing C and D courses and standing on the first tee there are quite a few people who could not recollect playing off this tee before.

In form lately and playing off 28, Rod Howett topped division 2 with a fine 40 points.  Tom Novak came in second eight points behind Rod and Pepo Frick took third with 31.

Neville Scourall, in his last round with us before his return to OZ, won division 1 with 33 points and, as always, Chris Voller was in the winning line up in second place with 32 and Martin Grimoldby was third with 31 points.

Near pins were claimed by Mike Chatt, Martin Grimoldby, Lindsay Phillips and Jimmy Johnson.

In the pairs-multiplier event, Lindsay Phillips and Rod Howett were streets ahead of the rest as they won with 71 points.  Chris Voller and Tom Novak came in second on 57 and Neville Scurrell and Alan Bissell took third after beating Martin Grimoldby and Pepo Frick 30/26 on the back nine, both teams with 52 points each.

Friday, July 4, Eastern Star – Stableford

The fairways here are still not up to scratch since the weed-killer went down a couple of weeks ago and heavy rain is needed to bring this course back to norm, but all in all it’s not really a big problem.

Mikael Andersson came back today to win division 1 with 35 points ahead of Grenville Hill in on 34, the latter beating Frank Kelly 10/7 on a back-six count back.

After being cut two shots since Wednesday’s game, Rod Howett lost out to Pepo Frick on count back for the top spot in the second flight, both with 35 points each, and Joe Kubon placed third with 34.

Near pins went to Karl Flood, Frank Kelly, Glenn King (2) and Iain Walsh.

Glenn King birdied the signature 13th hole for the only ‘2’ of the day.

At the presentation at Siam Cats there was a warm welcome back to Harry Vincenzi and a bon voyage to Roar Berger and James.
