Monday, Sept. 9, Bangpra – Stableford

With a field of three groups playing at Bangpra today we got off a bit early and were around in just on four hours.  The course was in fantastic condition with greens like greased lightning.  The scribe had a putt from about 15 inches away and only touched the ball but finished up with a six foot second putt.

One golfer never needed his putter as he holed out for an ace on the twelfth.  We heard the commotion from the 13th Tee but unfortunately didn’t see the ball go in, however we were caught up in the celebrations later on.  Fantastic!  John Player will remember this day out for a while to come and thank you very much from all who were there for the bell ring.

The scores were not so great with only two players beating 30 points, so only first and second were paid out today.  Waldo Blazsanyik took first place with a fine 36 points and John Player got second with 31.  Fortunately there were no ‘2’s as John had taken the prize already!

Wednesday, Sept. 11, Green Valley – Stableford

The ever-popular Green Valley was our venue for today, and with nine groups playing it was off as soon as we could get going.  This course is in great condition at the moment and the greens were in good shape also today.

We welcomed a couple of new faces to the Billabong for this outing, David Evans over from the old dart plus Ian Chipman and Don Wilson from NZ.

It turned out to be a very good day weather wise as there was no rain, even though it did threaten for a while.  The scoring was excellent with only a few players under 30 points and most of the field were in the mid 30’s with all the placings going to count backs.

The winner today was Darl White with 38 points on a count back over Noodle Russell, who by the way took Darl and Phil Elliott to the cleaners on the course.  Third place went to Brian Maddox with 37 points on a count back over Mark McDonald who took forth ahead of Neil Carter.

There were two 2s today coming from Brian Maddox and Noodle Russell.

Friday, Sept. 13, Plutaluang – Stableford

Playing the Navy today was a bit slow but there was no rain to speak of even though it tried hard a few times.  With only a small group it was easy to get everyone away on time and there were some good scores out there today as the course played pretty easy, if you were on the fairway that is.  The back nine seemed to be the easiest though as the scores were terrific with the winners scoring 22, 21 and 25 points respectively on the south course.

With all the rain they have had the course was in remarkable condition and the greens as usual were lightning fast.  Darl White and Bob Philp came first and third, in that order and had cleaned up against JJ Harney and Waldo.  Standing on the 18th tee JJ was heard to say double the lot on the last hole, so they did have something to play for and he won it with a birdie.

Winner today in the stableford comp was Darl White with a great 41 points, beating Owen Walkley also 41 on a count back with 22 points to Owens 21.  In third was Bob Philp with 37 points, getting 25 points on the back nine.
