PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, Dec. 12, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
This was the second of our two successive Holiday Monday visits to Pattaya Country Club where 25 players braved the early morning cold start, as temperatures dropped to 18 deg overnight. Needless to say, the cooler conditions made it ideal for golf but only for Div B, as the best Div A could muster was 32 points and there were five players with that score. In the count back shake-up, John Stafford headed the field from Owen Walkley and John Cunningham.
Div B was easily won by Ivan Plunkett with 41 points, and received a handicap cut of 2 shots, from Bob Lindborg, who, considering he admits he doesn’t like the course, did well to take second with 37 from John Kittilsen in third on 36.
There were two ‘2’s from John Cunningham (hole 7) & Jack Moseley (hole 12).
Div A (0-16)
1st John Stafford (15/Hi16) 32pts
2nd Owen Walkley (8/Hi9.8) 32pts
3rd John Cunningham (4/Hi6) 32pts
4th Lloyd Shuttleworth (4/Hi6.1) 32pts
Div B (17+)
1st Ivan Plunkett (21/Hi22.3) 41pts
2nd Bob Lindborg (18/Hi19.4) 37pts
3rd Jon Kittilsen (18/Hi18.7) 36pts
4th Suzi Lawton (20/Hi19.2) 35pts
Tuesday, Dec. 13, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
The usual Tuesday crowd was once again well supported as 18 turned out, which produced generally some much better scoring than Monday, as no less than four players scored 38 points and two more scored 36.
Paulie O’Mahoney (left) and Steve Mann, who both tallied 40 points each at Burapha.
Chad, our Tuesday organiser, was quite disappointed to learn that his excellent 38 points only earned him third place on count back, behind Doug Chalkley and Orn, both winners of their respective divisions the previous week. Playing partners for the last time, Kurt Eric and Mam took the top two places in Div B with 38 and 36 respectively, ahead of a resurgent Geoff Moodie, also with 36.
Course wise, the greens have been allowed to grow a little but hole 16 is still lethal to putt on when above the hole and most bunkers are sorely lacking attention and continue to be in poor condition, producing some horrid, virtually unplayable lies.
There were two ‘2’s from Nigel Cannon (hole 5) and Dave Earthrowl (hole 12).
On Tuesday 27th Dec we shall be having our usual Christmas “Fun Day’ competition, which will once again take the format of a rainbow multiplier with a difference. So find yourself a partner, if not leave to Capt’ Bob to pair you up and come and enjoy the day. After the comp will be food at the Outback, included in the 300 baht entry fee and as usual a little later, many of the regular caddies will be joining us as well.
Div A (0-20)
1st Orn Kanasaengsri (15/Hi14.7) 38pts
2nd Doug Chalkley (20/Hi21.3) 38pts
3rd Barry Chadbourn (18/Hi18.7) 38pts
4th Lloyd Shuttleworth (4/Hi6.2) 34pts
Div B (21+)
1st Kurt Eric Persson (29/Hi29.6) 38pts
2nd Phompinmon Seesa (29/Hi28.1) 36pts
3rd Geoff Moodie (25/Hi25.7) 36pts
4th Nigel Cannon (22/Hi22.5) 35pts
Wednesday, Dec. 14, Burapha – Stableford
Making the most of the tough rating and slope awarded to Burapha A & B from the blue tees, Paulie O’Mahoney saw his handicap index leap over 3 shots to give him a playing handicap of 12. He shared the top spot in Div A on 40 points with Steve Mann, who lost only on count back in a day of excellent scoring when nobody in Div A shot less than 30 points, even the Capt’ found a bit of form!
Pete Stonebridge headed Div B with a fine 39 ahead of Svenn Lund and playing partner, Jon Kittilsen who both shot 38 and only Andy Makara failed to make the 30 points mark by one. Generally a day of brilliant scoring on a course that was in perfect condition producing a CSA of one shot easier than par.
For the record, 20 played and there were no ‘2’s.
Div A (0-17)
1st Paulie O’Mahoney (12/Hi8.9) 40pts
2nd Steve Mann (13/Hi10.3) 40pts
3rd Owen Walkley (13/Hi9.9) 37pts
4th Neil Lavery (16/Hi12.6) 37pts
Div B (18+)
1st Pete Stonebridge (23/Hi19) 39pts
2nd Svenn Ole (18/Hi14.3) 38pts
3rd Jon Kittilsen (23/Hi18.7) 38pts
4th Bob Lindborg (23/Hi19) 37pts
Friday, Dec. 16, Green Valley – Stableford
The relatively small field today of 20 were subjected to a delayed start just before teeing off as two four-balls who were late for their allotted tee time were put out immediately in front. The numbers were down probably because of the PSC monthly event at Emerald and some of our guys who were marshaling at the Thailand Open at Amata Spring near Chonburi, where Lee Westwood has equaled the 36 hole Asian tour record of 20 under par.
Nothing quite like that here, in fact only one person managed to even equal handicap as Owen Walkley won Div A with his 36 points, followed in by our organiser for the day, Suzi on 35.
Div B went to Steve Giles, who recorded his first ever win with the Outback on 35 points, ahead of Friday regular Ed Horrocks on 34 and welcome back to David and Margaret Wilkinson, even though they did not trouble the leaderboard too much.
There was only one ‘2’ which came from Suzi on the 12th.
Div A (0-17)
1st Owen Walkley (9/Hi9.9) 36pts
2nd Suzi Lawton (17/Hi19.2) 35pts
3rd Dennis Pelly (10/Hi10.7) 30pts
4th Murray Hart (12/Hi12.5) 30pts
Div B (18+)
1st Steve Giles (25/Hi24.2) 35pts
2nd Ed Horrocks (22/Hi21.3) 34pts
3rd Andy Makara (30/Hi28.5) 32pts
4th Barry Lewis (29/Hi28.2) 31pts
