PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

In Div B, the honours went to another expert round this course, Bob Lindborg, with 36pts, ahead of Dave Coller (35), John O’Keefe (34) and Ivan Plunkett with 32.

Tuesday, March 12, Khao Kheow – Stableford

16 played A & B off the yellows today.  It was a good turnout considering that 68 Outbackers were up in Hua Hin playing golf.  We teed off 30 minutes early at 9am but at least there was a bit of a breeze to keep us cool.  The greens were a nightmare as the pin positions were put in the most ridiculous places possible leading to many having 3 putts on numerous holes.

John Lawton whinged and whined all the way round about the greens so maybe we could have a new nickname for him or give him the Boo Hoo Cup.  Our poor ears were sore by the 18th hole.

Paul Kruining got his first win at last with 36pts off 36 H’cap, so we may see that start to come down soon, well done Paul!  Second place went to one of Monday’s winners, Bob Lindborg with 33, just edging out Moi, with a similar 33.

A very special welcome to the Turnip, at last playing a different course to his home course (PCC) and a very fair 30pts he scored too, to gain fifth place and his first Race2Bkk points.

There were four ‘2’s from Tony Adams & Martin Burbidge (hole 5), Gary Hallawell on the 12th and Martin Burbidge got another one on the island green, 17th.

1st Paul Kruining (36) 36pts

2nd Bob Lindborg (20) 33pts

3rd Suzi Lawton (20) 33pts

4th Martin Burbidge (9) 31pts

5th Dennis Persson (17) 30pts

Wednesday, March 13, Siam Plantation – Stableford

Our thanks to Lumpy for running the day for us in our absence, even though he failed to play himself and substituted his wife Noodle instead, who incidentally scored 26pts but we can’t find her card!  24 players on the A & C, another great turnout on this wonderful course, which is a “must play” now for many visitors.

Gary Hallawell, having his third game of the week, came good at last to win Div A with 37pts from Siam member, Steve Poznanski with 35.  In Div B it was Mark Potter who took the win, also with 37pts, from Rex Thomas on 35.

There was only one ‘2’ from Martin Burbidge on C8.

Div A (0-12)

1st Gary Hallawell (11) 37pts

2nd Steve Poznanski (12) 35pts

3rd Martin Burbidge (9) 34pts

Div B (13+)

1st Mark Potter (14) 37pts

2nd Rex Thomas (20) 35pts

3rd Colin Jenkins (18) 32pts

Wednesday, March 13, Eastern Star – Stableford

As Siam Plantation was full today, we booked a couple of last minute tee times down at Eastern Star; five cards were returned with Adam Smith being returned as the winner on 35pts from Paul Greenaway with 32.  The course was reported to be in good condition, which may warrant a scheduled return there soon, especially if the discount vouchers are still available.

Friday, March 15, St. Andrews – Stableford

Twenty-seven players went to St Andrews as Green Valley had a member’s tournament.  The day started well as we got off the tee on time and the first three groups completed the course in good time, but then things slowed down and unfortunately the last three groups were caught in a thunderstorm with two holes to play, which made for a soggy ending.

The course was, in my opinion, nowhere near the condition of Green Valley and as a so called “premier course” it was not up to standard.  The tees are some of the worst around Pattaya and the greens were like putting on shag pile carpet; give me Green Valley any day!

Dennis Pelly has been off the course for a few weeks now and in hiding but now we know why, he’s been having a number of lessons just down the road from a Thai pro.  Obviously it must all be working as apparently he was level par (gross) for the front nine!  Anyway, Dennis went on to score a brilliant 42pts to win Div A by three from Dayle Hoek, who was one of the lads warming up for the inaugural Aussie Amateurs Tournament, four rounds of strokeplay at Burapha.

Kev Hamilton, having his last game before returning to cold UK for a couple of months, took third with 38 with Peter LeNoury heading a three way count back on 33.

Welcome back to Frank Sharkey, who brought along David Pringle and Jack Cooney and well done to David Pringle who won Div B with 38pts playing off 30.  John Stafford was second with 37, beating Frank on count back, also with 37.

There was only one ‘2’ from Paul Greenaway on the fifth.

Div A (0-15)

1st Dennis Pelly (11) 42pts

2nd Dayle Hoek (12) 39pts

3rd Kevin Hamilton (15) 38pts

4th Peter LeNoury (10) 33pts

Div B (16+)

1st David Pringle (30) 38pts

2nd John Stafford (17) 37pts

3rd Frank Sharkey (18) 37pts

4th Anton Rowbottam (16) 35pts
