What an action packed day you missed if you weren’t one of the 30 players who returned to the Thai Polo Club’s sweet softball field this past Sunday, July 8.  That’s right, the Pattaya Sports Club Softball league returned to the best diamond in the country to enjoy 5 action packed games of hard-nosed (I am an authority on that particular subject) Softball!

Highlights included Mike Berg, our Bangkok Softball connection bringing along a professional baseball player, Adam, who brought the game to a higher level.  Adam struck out his first 4 times at bat, unable to adequately adjust to the high lob pitch style of the softball game.  He stayed positive, and then, voila, he hit 5 consecutive homeruns to shatter the one day hitting record, and was named most valuable player in the tournament.  His Rob Deer like style of hitting was impressive, as you don’t come to softball or Pattaya for that matter, just to walk!

In 3 team tournament action, there were some great games.  Rick Smith’s team finished in the number 1 seed, beating John Stockton’s team 12-8 and then destroying Diego’s team 8-1.  After their first game setback, Stockton’s team put it all together by beating Diego’s team 7-6 and reversing their fortune against the undefeated Smith team in the final match.

With homerun blasts from Tyler Best & Brian Gavagan for Rick’s team, countered with dingers from Rodney and 2 from Adam the game really was a hitters’ duel.   In the end, John Stockton’s team was able to come out on top winning by a score of 15-9 and earning the title of champions for the day.

Another great Sunday of Pattaya Sports Club Softball saw the boys play a 5th and relatively meaningless game with anyone who had any energy left.  It turned into good fun and was an excellent way to tighten up our softball skills.  We are still looking for another 8 to 10 good hearted lads to come out every Sunday from noon to 4pm, and enjoy this great sport with us.  If interested send me an email (Diego) at igolfwells @gmail.com or to our lead organizer John Stockton at [email protected] or look us up on the Pattaya Sports Club website.  Hope to see you all out at the diamond soon!
