The green fee rates at Greenwood are still too high to bring the group back more often but the condition of the course, as always, was first rate today so it will still feature on the schedule from time to time.

Three divisions were needed following a good turnout but scoring was tough as the ultra-fast greens unsettled many, especially the higher handicappers who sometimes found they had to slip in a chip between two putts.

Andrew Purdie took charge of a high quality first division, leading them home by four clear ahead of a good return by Kevin Townsend who in turn headed Marl Cooper in third by another couple.

The second division was taken by Frank Hughes, being the first of his three appearances on the podium during the week, with Larry Gibb in second place and Markku Tynell third.

The Third division struggled to make the standard and helped to increase the CSS for the day up to 73 after Tony O’Neil led them in, closely followed by Tom McCarthy in second and Phil Stevenson third.

Frank Hughes had the sole ‘2’ in the second division whilst Kevin Townsend and Mark Williams shared the first division pool.

It was another three division day with even more entries and the handicap standard even stronger as many took advantage of the once a fortnight trip to arguably the best course in the area at the present time.

Kevin Blake continued his good run of form after making a small adjustment to his swing and duly won the first division on a count back over Billy Shepley with a better 18 to 17.  Andrew Purdie took third and Mark Lang fourth after Andrew won another count back by 17 to 15.

Kevin Townsend found himself in the second division on this occasion and won it by one from Frank Hughes, with Adrian Cook having his best round of recent times and also winning a count back by 17 to 15 for third place to leave Vincent Gras fourth.

Phil Stevenson had a very good day out and won the third division ahead of Markku Tynell in second.  Tom McCarthy took third after he won a count back on the back six by 10 to 8 over Brendan Dunne.

Billy Shepley, Graham Davis and Arian Cook sheared the 2s pot in the first division and Larry Gibb had an early Chinese New Year present when he scored the sole 2 in the second division.

As usual the last Friday of the month was medal day with both the first and second places in each division qualifying for the end of year Gold and Silver Medal play offs in December.

Mike Dabanovich won the first division with a very solid two under return on a course that continues to improve each time the group visits, with the greens especially meriting good comment.

Peter Skinner always performs well in a medal format and did so once again for second place on level handicap and two in front of Kevin Blake, who had started the front nine rather slowly but improved by five through the last nine but the damage had already been done for the day.

In division 2, Leo Adam returned to claim his very first monthly medal by two clear ahead of Frank Hughes, again, in second and Dave Paul in third taking his first podium placement with the group after he had won a count back over Mark Armstrong with a better 36.5 to 39.

There were no 2s in the second division but Mark Williams, as usual, had a couple in the first division.
