PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, Sept. 5, St. Andrews (white tees) – Stableford
1st Phil Smedley (14) 38pts
T2nd Kevin Hamilton (20) 36pts
T2nd Fred Birch (20) 36pts
T2nd Gary Emmett (18) 36pts
There was a competition booked at our usual Green Valley venue, so today we were happily shifted over to play at her sister course, St. Andrews. We were all looking forward to this event as it had been ages since we played this great track.
It was fine weather as overcast conditions for most of the day made for perfect golf weather. The only disappointment was the coring of the greens earlier, and not all had been filled with sand. The band played on.
36 seemed to be a popular number and 3 blokes shot to their handicap. It was only the ‘Deadly Smedley’ who bettered his cap and his 38 points was to be the winning score here today. Phil has been making a comeback of late as his new driver has found him some mojo off the tee box. The irons were also working well as he claimed the Caddy Smile near pin on that treacherous 17th par 3. Just hitting that sucker is a blessing! Nice shooting Captain.
Thursday, Sept. 8, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford
1st Phil Smedley (13) 37pts
2nd Fred Birch (18) 36pts
Road trip! We loved the sound of getting back to Kabinburi and hitting the road for a couple of days. The course was in spectacular condition but the highlight of the trip was the new hotel, The Serenity, located right in town off the highway 33. This new hotel is just 6 months old and the French owner Olivier could not have been a more gracious host. He and his Thai wife have built a gorgeous property we can highly recommend.
On to the golf, and we had 36 holes ahead of us and a combined eclectic comp as well. It was a bit of an ominous beginning as rain swirled about, but the times we were on the golf course it never rained once. Very lucky indeed! Nahm and Oil were always there to see we were well taken care of, and KBSC just gets better every trip.
Capt. Phil continued to outplay the field and 37 points today just edged out Fred Birch on 36. Congrats also to Corey Cusatis who spanked one to 12 feet on the very pretty 16th hole which was measured at 128 yards.
We were in no hurry, but the round took only 4 hours and that is great because we were having to keep the carts on the path, which always makes for slower play.
A 10 minute drive back to the Serenity and the gang was ready for our traditional wine and cheese party.
Friday, Sept. 9, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford
1st Peter Thomas (17) 38pts
2nd John Emmerson (11) 37pts
Today was hot. There was barely a breeze in the air and with the high humidity it was warmer than we would have liked it. But it was time to soldier on and get as many points on the card as we could. The eclectic was also in play so if you improved your hole score from the day before, you could use that for the eclectic score. It is an interesting and challenging format that some of the lads had never played before and proved to be a hit.
John Emmerson was in form today and 37 bought him second place. Peter Thomas did one better and won the day with 38 hard earned points. Peter also brought home the bacon with a near pin shot that landed 6 feet from the hole and a class stroke with the flat stick brought him the birdie that would eventually snag the win.
As for the eclectic comp, it was Peter Thomas and Phil Smedley who shared the victory with an equal 43 points, so well played to you both!
We will be returning soon to Kabinburi and the Serenity Hotel so look for the dates on our upcoming schedules for the dates. Thank you for your support of TGC, and keep it in the fairway!
