The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
On Monday, 3rd September, the Pattaya Golf Society travelled to Crystal Bay to play a stableford competition on the B and A nines which were in fine condition with good fairways and consistent greens. The extra bonus was an almost empty course which lay ahead of the golfers as they teed off in cool, comfortable weather.
With some of the white tees set further back than normal the course was to prove longer than normal but the field acquitted themselves well with Andrew Purdie joining local member Takeshi Hakozaki in second place with a level par 36 points. Firing the best gross of the day, 76, was Seil Revels and he took the win with 37 points. It was another creditable performance by the Society’s lowest regular handicapper.
Takeshi scored the only birdie ‘2’ of the day on A8 and the Booby Bevy went to Darren Locke who played the round with clubs borrowed from the Rabbi and treated them to some shots, the length and accuracy of which they had never seen before.
Crystal Bay had come up trumps again as the PGS started the new month in fine fettle.
Edwards in his element at Green Valley
The Pattaya Golf Society visited Green Valley on Friday, 7th September after a long absence and found a course in excellent condition with well grassed fairways and good, quick greens. The format was stableford and a cloudy day with a strong breeze blowing throughout made for very comfortable playing conditions. Surely it was a day when golfers on top of their game would respond with good scores?
One such golfer was Ken Grimes and his 36 points took third place. Tony Thorne has suffered a slump in form recently through a lack of rounds, after returning from a visit to Australia, but put it all behind him this day with 39 points to take second place. The winner was Dave Edwards, playing at the top of his game on the back nine, who recorded an excellent forty points.
The only birdie ‘2’ was recorded by Mr Len on the fourth whilst the Booby Bevy was awarded in retrospect to Wichai Tananusorn after a couple of very embarrassing moments in the previous competition at Pattana. Details available on request!
