PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Thursday, April 14, The Emerald – Stableford

With Songkran upon us, golfers were at a shortage (unlike the water that was being tossed about here in Pattaya).  It’s a time of year that brings back sad memories to us all here at The Swan: twelve months ago we lost an avid golfer and a good friend in Mark Henkel.  Mark we all miss you and our thoughts are with your family.  It still amazes this writer that so many deaths result from the over the top celebrations at Songkran without anything being done about it.  The mind boggles!

Thirteen ventured out to tackle Emerald Golf Club, a course that used to be referred to as the desert track (as in the lack of green on the fairways). Well I can say, having played the course on 3 occasions in the last month, that that situation has been reversed and it is now one of the lushest courses that we play.  My only complaint is the pin placements but other than that it is a pleasure to play.

Graham Rice.

The weather was on the warm side with little breeze on offer to cool the players.  A welcome was extended to Gary Monley, returning from Australia and we got a call from a panel beating shop in Ban Chang (who look after Emerald’s golf cart repairs) and they passed on their regards to Gary.

For those interested, the Grey (NAGA) Cap went as follows; Preston 2, Campbell 1 & Grey 1.

1st Graham Rice (13) 34pts

2nd Ebrahim (17) 33pts

3rd Jason Schembri (17) 31pts

Near Pins: 5th – Lindsay Slender, 7th – Steve Younger, 13th – Steve Younger, 15th – Phil Taylor

Long Putts: 9th – Bernie McCart

Note: The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings. We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Sundays at 10am for open grass bowling at The Retreat. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
