The Tara Court Golf Society
Sunday, August 27, Silky Oak – Stableford
We had a smaller than usual group out today here at Silky Oak. The course was wet in places after the heavy rain the previous night and we had to employ ‘pick and place’ for the first time in a long time.
Shaun Tracy (H/cap 11) was the man of the march today with a very steady round of 40 points, with 20 on the back nine despite a blank on the tenth. Bob St Aubin (16) also played very steady and came second with 36 points while Russell Gilroy (16) made his customary visit to the podium to take the third and last place r today with 35 points.
Bob St Aubin and Don Everett shared the ‘2’s pit with one each.
Tuesday, August 29, Banyan G.C. – Stableford
A few of us decided to take a short trip to Hua Hin to avail of the good discounts on the golf here at this time of the year.
For our first round we played the magnificent Banyan Golf Course and for many of the group this was their first time to play here. It is definitely up there with the best courses in Thailand and with the special discount they are giving at the moment it is well worth a visit.
First time playing here Craig Robson (14) took the top spot with 36 points. Donal McGuigan (19) also had 36 but lost out on the count back to Craig and had to settle for second. Don Everett (22) had 33 points to take the third and last place on the podium while and Joe McArdle recorded the only ‘2’ of the day.
Thursday, August 31, Black Mountain G.C. – Stableford
We had our second game in Hua Hin today at the beautiful Black Mountain Golf course. This place is in my opinion by far the best of them all and not just in Hua Hin but also in Thailand. The course is magnificent with immaculate tee boxes, fairways and greens which are fast. It is not an easy course, with many water hazards etc., but one of our group certainly beat it.
Craig Robson went round it in six over par gross to score 42 points off his 14-handicap. A full six shots behind was Joe McArdle (15) to take the second place with 36. We then had two players with 34 points and here Don Everett (22) won the count back on the last six holes to come third, with Stuart Brown losing out on the prizes.
Russell Gilroy and Craig Robson shared the ‘2’s with one each. We also had a prize for the overall winner over the two days and here Craig Robson was again a very clear winner with a total of 78 points.
