PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, June 29, Green Valley (white tees) – Monthly Medal
1st Kenny Aihara (3) net 70
2nd Paul Tudor (5) net 72
3rd Charles Tregurtha (7) net 73
Wow! Kenny did it again! For the very first time in our 8 year history, one man has won 4 stars on his shirt for 4 monthly medal wins and it was no surprise to see it was Mr. Aihara. That is a run of great golf and as consistent as Kenny is, it really was just a matter of time. Way to go Kenny, we know a 5th is on the cards for next year. Pretty soon you will have as many Antigua’s as Dave Ferris.
Wednesday, July1, Greenwood A&B (white tees) – Stableford
1st Ben Denham (3) 37pts
2nd Kenny Aihara (3) 34pts
3rd Steve Zeigler (13) 32pts
We hadn’t been out here to Greenwood in quite some time and it was good to get back to this lovely golf course. Like Pattavia and Treasure Hills, it is another 15 minutes up the 331 but so good when you do finally get here.
Scramble winners, Peter Rogers & Billy Eyles.
Visiting Floridian Steve Zeigler did well today and found his form for third. Once again, it was Kenny up on the podium as the previous week he was absent from any victories thus giving the other lads a shot. Ben Denham was the story of the day though as he blew away the field with a 37, so well played to Ben for a great round off just a 3 handicap!
Friday, July 3, Pattavia (white tees) – 2M Scramble
1st Billy Eyles/Peter Rogers net 61.8
2nd Freddy Graham/Nick Handscombe net 63.6
3rd Barry Collier/Ron Robertson net 64.5
Today we celebrated the 8th birthday of The Golf Club a day early as the 4th fell on a weekend. It was a quick trip out as the last 7km of road has improved greatly and we had little problem dealing with Amata, as the previous week was a nightmare through this junction. You just never know! Time out was 55 minutes and back about the same, but it is well worth it once you get here.
Wednesday’s top three, Ben Denham with Ken Aihara & Steve Zeigler.
Apart from a sizzling one hour stretch in the middle, the weather was just great and a perfect afternoon breeze kicked up for the back nine play.
The golf course was in top shape, it really is worth that little extra bit of a drive to get out here because it is such a good track. Greens are probably the fastest and most treacherous in Pattaya, but that is what makes this place fun!
This is a great course for a scramble, and when you throw in that rainbow format (6 red, 6 white and 6 blue tees) it makes for some interesting strategic moves. For once, my fellow TGC partner Adam and I found ourselves at the finishing 4 holes with all our drives in and playing 3 reds and a blue in hand. As hot as Adam’s putter was, I certainly dragged him down to my level.
Third Place went to Barry Collier and Ron (R2) Robertson with a decent score of 64.5 and second was a card from Freddy Graham and Nicky Handscombe with a 63.6 circled on top. But the big winners were the defending champions, Peter Rogers (U.S.A.) & Billy Eyles (England) who ham & egged their way around this tough track to reclaim the top prize with a hot 61.8. Both players will receive our legendary Antigua shirts monogrammed for the event as well as a steak night dinner of their choice.
Diehard scramblers at Pattavia.
Near pins went to Peter Rogers (4th hole), Mark Wood (7th hole), Nick Handscombe (13th hole) and lastly Steve Ellison on the 17th. Nicky also took the longest putt on the 18th of 26 feet and Kenny Aihara had the long drive nailed down on the 9th. All of these technical prizes win pork chop dinners on the BBQ for another day. Thanks to all who joined us and we hope the 4th was just as good for you!
