Monday, May 16, Green Valley – Stableford

2nd Brad Sproxton 37pts
3rd Suzi Lawton 34pts
4th John Deardon 34pts
Roger Koehler got his driver re-shafted and it paid big dividends with 38 points and first place in today’s comp. Brad Sproxton, playing in the same group, fed off Roger and came in second on 37. What would a comp be without a count-back? Sweet swinging Suzi Lawton edged out JTB 18/17 as they finished third and fourth respectively.
We welcomed back Brian Holden and Gavin Wright who were taking a break from work related responsibilities.
Wednesday, May 18, St. Andrews – Stableford
1st Mark Wood 40 pts
2nd Gavin Wright 38 pts
3rd Mick Beresford 35 pts
No sclaffs today for Mark Wood; a scrambling 40 pointer and top spot in the frame. Gavin Wright controlled his high fade and sank some long putts to finish second on 38 points and ‘Best Dressed’ and third place went to “Come on up and join me” Mick Beresford.
We had only 8 players today as the other 8 that signed up cried off because of the rain in Pattaya. Upon arriving to the course we found dry conditions and enjoyed a rain free round. Let that be a lesson for rainy season golf in Thailand.
Thursday, May 19, Soi Dao Highlands – Stableford
1st Larry Maxey 37pts
2nd Bob Newell 34pts
We had smaller numbers for this excursion to Soi Dao, but made up for it with good conditions and better camaraderie. A 12 o’clock tee time and we got soaked by the end of the first hole. As quick as the rain came it was over and play continued.
Larry Maxey, a first timer to Soi Dao, recorded a great 37 points to take the frame while ‘Seamless’ Bob Newell was second with 34. We then adjourned to the restaurant for a hearty night of libations and laughs.
Friday, May 20, Soi Dao Highlands – Stableford
1st Jack Spencer 36 pts
2nd Mark Wood 36 pts
Day 2 saw a 9 o’clock start and wonderful weather. Our 2 groups were alone on the golf course although we did manage to see one other 4-ball (when we were finished and sitting in the lounge). A great day out!
Jack Spencer and Mark Wood tied for top spot on 36 points. For something different we had a hidden partner comp and the draw winners were Mark Wood and Gavin Wright. Thanks to all that supported us this past week. We are planning another away trip June 8 & 9 with the venue TBD shortly.
