The Outback Bar Golf Society
Monday, Oct. 10, Burapha – Stableford
Out once again on the A & B courses our players were greeted with the fabulous current conditions at Burapha. Make no mistake however, the rough can be punishing here and with the wet conditions the course was playing a bit longer than otherwise. The greens here are as good as anywhere, they run true and are in great condition.
The scores reflected the ideal conditions with almost half the field playing better than handicap. John O’Keefe joined 4 other players on 39 points but his 18 on the back nine was the worst of the lot, hence his 5th position. In 4th place was Alex Field with 20 points on the back nine while second and third places had to be decided on the last six holes, with Jim Brackett coming off worse and losing to Bob Lindborg. Dennis Pelly came out top this day with a fantastic 42 points off his 13 handicap.
Friday, Oct. 14, Green Valley – Stableford
Word came back from the players today that Green Valley is improving a lot and that the greens are almost back to normal.
In the B division, Mick Beresford scored a great 39 points to finish in 3rd spot. His playing partner and friend Eddy Beilby outdid him however and recorded 41 points to clinch second. Incidentally, the handicap system finally caught up with Eddy’s elaborate recent scores and he has been cut to 17.1. The day belonged to Roy Johan Steinbach, who played the best round of golf in his entire life to finish with 43 points and take victory. Roy, being one of the nicest Moldovan’s to visit our bar, had no problem in ringing the bell with the regulars in full attendance.
In the A division, Peter Nixon just missed out on count back for a place to John Stafford who had a better last six on 37 points. In 2nd place, also on 37 points, Geoff King beat John on count back. Steve Mann scored 39 points to win top spot in the division.
Both Steve and John will be joining our South African tour in a few short weeks, and good to see them going into the tour on such good form.
