The Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC), located next to Pattaya Bay, has been a well known sailing center in Thailand for almost 60 years.  Royal patronage was bestowed on the club in 1965 by His Majesty King Bumidol who sailed from these shores in the 1960’s.

RVYC has always provided quality sailing classes but a recent affiliation with the Royal Yachting Association based in the UK has brought the club up to a new level.

“The ability to provide RYA accredited courses for Varuna club members was always our aim,” says Training Center Principal, Jordan Rumsby.  “Passing the RYA inspection last year made this aim a reality.”

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is an internationally recognized organization for all forms of boating.  Founded in 1957 and headquartered in Hamble, England the RYA is ‘committed to providing equal opportunities for all’.  RVYC espouses the same policy with membership of all ages and nationalities and instruction in Thai or English.  Varuna Yacht Club is now RYA accredited to provide training in dinghy, multihull sailing and powerboat courses.  All RVYC instructors are RYA qualified and certified, making RVYC the most professional base for quality sailing classes in the region.

Youth sailing training at Varuna is an integral part of the club and has resulted in many of the RVYC children competing both locally and internationally.  RVYC sailing programs have also attracted the notice of Thailand International Schools, who now offer sailing as part of their curriculum.

“Students love what we can provide,’ says Jordan, “and since becoming a certified training base, members and guests now enjoy progressing through the RYA Youth and National Sailing scheme.”

RVYC trainers have taught over 1,000 young children to sail in the last 3 years alone.

Varuna’s Rear Commodore, Chris Dando commented: “Our club not only provides great instruction but also fantastic facilities and a chance to interact with our members.  In the last three years alone our instructors have taught over 1,000 young children to sail.  The club’s ethos is to promote sailing in Thailand and we are certainly making strides towards this positive endeavourer.”

Dedicated instructors and staff, a beautiful location and good sailing waters has made RVYC the ultimate sailing club and now with the addition of RYA accreditation Varuna has become Asia’s premier training center.
