Not a large field but an enthusiastic group of golfers made today’s trip to Pleasant Valley, one bus and 3 cars did the job of getting all punters to the course.

The course was in fine nick, fairways were clean and freshly mowed, the rough had been trimmed and it appeared that the greens were playing true. Conditions were perfect with no sign of rain and a gentle breeze offering us some relief from sun.

We played one division and South African Rudy Regenass took the day’s honors with an excellent 40 points. Finishing second was Takeshi Hakozaki only one point behind our leader and third past the post was that man who has found the fountain of youth, Gordon Clegg.

Twenty golfers lined up to have a crack at Eastern Star Golf Course. Mixed reports have filtered back to us over the last month or so, as to how the course is, no better way to find out than to get there and try it out. Well they are doing a “reno job” on the club house, a little inconvenient but at the end of the day we are there to play golf and the rest is insurmountable.

Our 4 groups teed off earlier than schedule and we did not see any other golfers on the course till very late in our game. We attacked from the yellow tees and invoked ‘lift, clean & place’ as rain was threatening, but fortunately it did not arrive.

The course was in tip top shape – fairways were great, bunkers were raked (I noticed that in our 4 the caddies were right on to raking the bunkers) something that does not happen at every course, and the greens were true but deadly. A lot of discussion after the game was the amount of 3 and 4 putts that were made.

Two flights today and the A-Flight (0-25) saw the ever-reliable and consistent Mashi Kaneta take first place on the podium with 35 points. Second past the post was Alex Field, with Wan Makmul filling the third spot.

Shane Young took out first place in B-Flight with a game high 37 points. In second was Paul Rosbrook and Patrick Poussier completed the podium in third.
