IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society travelled to Greenwood on Wednesday, 22nd June, to play a stableford competition over the A and B nines on a course which was empty. Such is the current a low season profile of Eastern Seaboard golf.
The course was in excellent condition and from the furthest white tees was a daunting challenge. The competition saw Stuart Thompson take third place with 33 points in an effort to regain his former form and Haruyuki Kato take second with 35 points to show he is now playing to his handicap after a few rounds getting there. The winner was Alex Sala, an old friend of the group, but one who does not always enjoy the results he deserves, but on this occasion his strikes were true and he recorded his best finish with the PGS.
The only birdie ‘2’ was recorded by Haruyuki and the Booby Bevy went to Bryan Barrell for his low score finish.
Good golfing friends and an empty course, and as someone said on the first tee, “Another fine day in Paradise”.

The Pattaya Golf Society visited Crystal Bay on Friday, 24th June to play a stableford competition on a day originally earmarked for the group’s monthly charity day. Though the format had been changed because of the moderate field the charity element still featured highly in the golfers’ minds as they set out on the C and A nines which were in excellent condition.
Technicals in the form of Near Pins were sponsored by Larry Slattery and Len Jones and the signature par threes on both nines were selected. On C7 Chris Smith took the prize whilst on A8 Len Jones took his own sponsored prize and immediately donated it to the Fr. Ray Foundation Outreach Centre which is the chosen charity of the group this year.
In the competition proper a revitalised Mr Len took third place with 34 points, scratching the final hole in spectacular fashion, whilst the group’s “Player of the Week”, Haruyuki Kato took second with 37 points. The winner was Nile Sheehan and his forty points was due in much part to his excellent putting which saw him thrive on the 9.5 stimped greens.
At the presentation it was revealed that the day had raised the fine total of two thousand baht for the street kids in the Outreach Centre bringing the amount raised so far this year to almost seventy thousand. The generosity of the PGS golfers continues to impress even in the most stringent of times. Well done everyone and a big “thank-you” from Khun Phennipa and the kids on Soi Thepprasit.
