The Pattaya Golf Society at the Elephant Bar, Soi Buakhao
On Wednesday, 18th June the Pattaya Golf Society visited Mountain Shadow to play a stableford competition from the blue tees on a day which saw very little other action at the course. The course presentation was reasonably good, bunkers were a little scruffy but the greens were true and millionaires’ golf lay ahead of the group which teed off way before time. A strong breeze was evident all day but the day remained dry.
In a share of third place was the old Aussie warhorse Alan Walker, freshly returned from a break back home and a very solid 33 points gave him a good score on his return to action. On the same score was Tomas Nilsson and the “deja vue” feeling continued as the winner was Brian Beaupre, all consistency as well as skill, and his gross 78 represented a points score of 35 for the win.

Peter Sanderson took the consolation beer and John Tallett suffered a “mare” and received the Booby Bevy. But for the winners it was a case of “same old… same old” as Beaupre and Nilsson swept all before them again. Until the next time maybe?
Walker runs away with it
The Pattaya Golf Society ended the week in style on Friday with a visit to the ever-impressive Pattavia to play a stableford competition on a course which gets better by the month and represents excellent value for money. The course was in excellent condition and if any comment could be made, the greens were hard and difficult to play, but this is the nature of the course.
Wayne Morrison, recently returned from Oz, sponsored four near pins and these were won by Jesper Hansen (4), Alan Flynn (7), David Thomas (13) and Paul Whitnall (17). In addition David Thomas managed the only ‘2’ of the day.
For the places proper, Tomas Nilsson continued to impress with a third placed finish on 35 points and Alan Flynn threw off a few feckless rounds to take second place with an excellent 38 point return. The oldest golfer in the field, Alan Walker, played the best round of his life in Thailand to record 42 points on a course playing long and he amazed his peers with some clinical golf.
The consolation beer went to Peter Sanderson and the Booby Bevy went to Wayne Morrison for nightmare on his return. But even Wayne agreed he had enjoyed a day at a fine course and he is seeking revenge soon!
