PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, Oct. 12, Bangpra – Stableford

With only 2 buses travelling out today, the banter was the normal.  How many pars, how many birdies and how many points!

It was such a shame that our numbers were low as our destination today was Bangpra, affectionately named ‘The Monkey Course’.  As usual the course was in excellent condition and I had forgotten just how good this course is.  It was in great shape, and with the weather being in our favor it was a pleasurable day.  The greens were lighting fast (like putting on glass), and the caddies (in our group) were great.  And there were plenty of monkeys to keep us on our toes.

Stuart Rifkin with Deefa the Dog.

As per recent times, it looked like rain would intervene but it held off and a gentle breeze from time to time kept playing conditions very pleasant.

We attacked the course from the white tees, with Stu Rifkin getting out of the blocks early and continuing on through the 18.  He played a very consistent game to take the win while John Davis, playing his first game back with us from his UK trip, took out second and the evergreen Ebrahim third.

1st Stuart Rifkin (17) 38pts

2nd John Davis (16) 34pts

3rd Ebrahim Al-Ansari (16) 33pts

Near Pins: #8 Stu Rifkin, #12 Keith Buchanan, #17 Ebrahim Al-Ansari

Long Putts: #18 Jerry Dobbs

Thursday, Oct. 15, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Two busloads of eager golfers gathered today to test their skill.  The weather was great with a nice breeze in attendance and the course in good condition, especially the greens.  We took up the challenge from the white tees on Courses C & A.

John Anderson.

Russell confessed he was a bit second hand prior to tee off and Andrew’s shorts looked like an off shoot from a Hawaiian hula dancer’s skirt.  Welcomes were handed out to Ernie Picken, Jim Groves and Pierre Cere.

With only 1 flight today, John Anderson handed in a superb forty points to finish seven clear of Alex Field (33) and Jerry Dobbs (33).  Fourth spot went to Steve Younger on thirty two points.

1st John Anderson (28) 40pts

2nd Alex Field (20) 33pts

3rd Jerry Dobbs (23) 33pts

4th Steve Younger (18) 32pts

Near Pins: Steve Younger A5, Alex Field A8, Sal Brizzi C4, Russell Calcutt C7.

Long Putts: Jerry Dobbs C9, Ebrahim A9
