On a perfect morning in Pattaya two buses and three cars gathered to make the journey that was required to get to Mountain Shadow.

Once again we tackled this course from the blue tees and there was plenty of run that suited many, but it was the greens that sorted out most.  The weather certainly suited this game and it warmed up as the day got longer.  I guess that’s why we play in the mornings as opposed to the PM.

With twenty five golfers we went to two divisions – A-Flight as 0 to 17 and B-Flight was 18+.  A-Flight saw Steve Younger take out first spot 4 points ahead of his closest rivals, Dave Mew and Tony Berry (who were separated by our count back system).  B-Flight saw our Italian tenor Tizano Dal Pastro take first spot by the lowest of margins, with Vero Morgan and Glenn Smith, also being separated by the count back system.

A keen group of 19 golfers headed out to a lovely Greenwood Golf Course to tackle the A & B nines in that order.  The conditions were sunny with little wind about and it seemed perfect for good scoring, especially as we were playing off the yellow tees.

A special greeting was handed out to long time Growling Swan Golfer Mike Gosden, who pleasantly surprised us all with his attendance.  Many of you will know Mike has recently been in very poor health after major surgery, so to see his smiling face and the outstanding recovery he has made gave everyone a lift.  Keep up the good fight Mike, and don’t forget we are all in your corner!

Only one division today and it was comfortably won by 5 points by Jayson Schembri, who had a very good day at the office with 44 points.  He was able to hit his short irons a lot straighter today, thanks to some advice about his swing from his pals, Toddy and JJ, which enabled him to reach many greens in regulation, and post a good score.

Coming in second was Steve Younger, who seems to be back in good form with an excellent second nine today to post a solid 39 points.

Third spot saw low handicapper Wayne Green with 38 points, which basically meant off the stick he shot under par… how good that must feel to be able to do that!  Wayne celebrated by shouting himself a new golf bag.

Mark “The Viper” Stapleton was in fourth position with 37 points, beating on count back, the unlucky Mike Wilks, whose very good round was halted by a lost ball on 17 after he initially thought it was heading for a greenside bunker only to get there and realize he had a problem.  Meanwhile his playing partner Jockey Young was seen searching afterwards in the bar for a Srixon 3 to plant in Jayson Schembri’s pocket.
