PSC golf from the Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, August 4, Eastern Star – Stableford

Eastern Star with greens a bit slow but the course was in great condition.  It is always a hard course that takes no prisoners, with water left and out of bounds right on most of the holes, but in saying that it has to be one of the best challenges of golf in this area and we don’t play it often enough.

We only had a small group today and it took a long time to get back to the bar in the thick traffic along the 331.  The scores were good with Phil Waite taking top spot with a great 39 points and Mal Farquharson coming in the bridesmaid spot once again with 37.  I think you need to catch the bouquet next time mate it might make that little bit of difference.

There were no ‘2’s recorded.

Wednesday, August 6, Green Valley – Stableford

With a lot of the regulars away playing in our old mate Barry Chadbourn’s Memorial tournament, we had a depleted field of only five groups but they were capably looked after by Mal Farquharson and Steven Balfour – thanks for that fellas.

We were joined by Henry O’Brien and his good mate John Needham, along with Max Scott playing with us for the first time and Max had a great day out playing the course in just one over off the bat, a fantastic round indeed.

The girls always give a showing also with Sa and Orn seeming to always be up there in the prizes.  It’s good to see as we are now getting six or seven ladies playing here each week.

The course was in grand condition as usual with fast greens and no sign of a bad lie on the fairways.  The scores were great as well with Owen Walkley taking fourth place with 34, being beaten on a count back by Jittina Tinpranee (Orn) in third.  Coming second was Nichawan Khiaophuang (Sa) with a great 40 points but also losing on a count back to Max Scott with 40 off his five handicap.

There were three ‘2’s today coming from Henry O’Brien, Dave Hutchison, and Bob Finley.

Friday, August 8, Burapha – Stableford

It’s been a long time since we played at Burapha, and what a pleasure it was.  We played A and B off the white tees and with six groups it turned out to be a good day out.  The course was in fantastic condition and even if the rough is like cotton wool it is still a great course to play and the price is as good a value you will get anywhere, in fact better than anywhere.  We will be playing this course on the first and third Fridays each month for the next few months.

Welcome back today to Craig Wheeler from Sydney and also the Kiwi’s John Lowe and Dion Lane, and although Dion didn’t get to town until 1 a.m. he still managed to get into the prizes.

The scores were a mixed bag, which was surprising as playing from the white tees it’s only 6,200 yards.  Anyway, the Hong Kong copper Glyn Davies got fourth place with a fine 34 points, Owen Walkley came in third with 37 and taking second on a count back over Owen was Dion Lane with 20 points on the back nine.  Taking line honours today with a great three over off the bat was Gary Ritchie playing off his seven handicap and getting 40 points.  A great day out mate well done!

There were only two ‘2’s recorded although that should have been three but alas the one that got away was from Gary whose ball moved at address which incurred a shot penalty so the two became a three, hard luck mate.  Owen Walkley and Dion lane got the others.

Note:  The Billabong is situated just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan.  Give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 if you are looking for a game.
