Monday, Dec. 19, The Emerald – Stableford

The first tee was surprisingly deserted today and we set off 25 minutes ahead of schedule and with two divisions out with the equal cut at 5-17.6 in the top flight and 18.1+ in division 2.  Irt was another cool day which was enjoyed by everyone.

Dennis Scougall recorded the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 36 points, while Ireland’s Jerry McCarthy was second with 33 and Dave Horne third with 30.

Paul Young topped division 2 with 35 points, one ahead of commercial airline pilot Jeff Greer in second place, with William Chang one further point behind in third place with 32.

Dave Horne collected three nearest the pins in division 1, Dennis Scougall getting the other, and in division 2 it was Jim Connelly, Jeff Greer, David Phillips and Paul Young who took the technical awards.

There were no ‘2’s in division 1 today and William Chang birdied the 7th for the only one of the in division 2.

Wednesday, Dec. 21, Crystal Bay – Stableford

The A course is still closed and under renovation until late February or early March so we were playing the C and B nines today in that order.  A change in the weather today from the past couple of weeks as it was a clear blue sky with the sun beating down on us from the first tee onwards.  The course was in good condition and the greens on the back nine were a lot slicker than the front nine.

There were 5 fourballs out today with the cut at 5-17 and 18+ and scoring 38 points off a playing handicap of 14, Brian Keating won division 1 ahead of the inform Dennis Scougall in second on 37.  Eero Sikka, playing off 5, occupied third spot on the podium with 35 points.

Welshman Curtis Hessler won division 2 with 34 points while Rod Howett took second after a 14/11 back-six count back decision over Paul Young, both with 33 points overall.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Dave Horne (2) and Jerry McCarthy, and (Div 2) Jim Connelly and Paul Young.

Jerry McCarthy birdied B6 to collect the rollover ‘2’s pot in division 1 in there was a rollover in division 2.

Friday, Dec. 23, Eastern Star – Stableford

Our largest turnout of the week with nine groups out today so three divisions with the cut set at 8-14, 15-18 and 19+ respectively.  There was no cloud covering today and it was a scorching day with high humidity that was felt by all.

Arthur Hancock returned the highest score of the day, winning division 1 with 38 points, Mikael Andersson was second on 34 and Brian Keating beat Ian Speirs on a 16/13 back-nine count back to finish third after they both scored 32 points overall.

In division 2, Dennis Scougall was the winner with 35 points, Volker Suhr placed second one point behind and Colin Aspinall took third with 33.

There were three 35’s fighting for the top podium position in division three and in the end a 22/19/16 back-nine count back saw Jeff Greer take the win ahead of Rod Howett and Max Wilson in that order.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Mikael Andersson, Bill Bertram, Arthur Hancock and Dennis Scougall, and (Div 2) Jim Connelly (2), Volker Suhr and Louis Wong.

Arthur Hancock and Jerry McCarthy both birdied the 3rd to split the ‘2’s pot in division 1 and on the signature 13th a ‘2’ for Volker Suhr saw him scoop the division 2 payout with two rollovers.
