IPGC golf from The Haven Weekly
Wednesday, Oct. 12, Rayong C. C. – Stableford
CSS 72
1st Erik Donnestad (4) 36pts
2nd Rod Howett (23) 33pts
3rd Yasuo Suzuki (9) 31pts
4th Trevor Schirmer (15) 30pts
Following seemingly weeks of wet weather and Monday’s cancelled competition, it was finally back to at least the semblance of normal golf even though the courses for the week remained fairly well watered. At least Pattaya has escaped the worst of the flooding experienced in many other parts of the country although Pattana lost the lake to the right of the first fairway on the B course when the dam/outflow was totally overcome by one of the recent heavy storms. Fortunately the play of the course is not affected in any way at all.
Erik Donnestad returned another level handicap round that proved to be sufficient to take the day’s top honours, and finished in style with a gross level par back nine to seal the win.
Erik Donnestad.
Rod Howett came the nearest to catching Erik but could not match him over the closing holes and had to settle for second spot ahead of Yasuo Suzuki, who was two behind, and Trevor Schirmer in fourth another one back.
There were no 2’s in either division.
Before presenting the prizes The Doc welcomed back Markus Kamfjord, Mark Armstrong and Paul Hartley.
Friday, Oct. 14, Khao Kheow – Stableford
CSS 72
1st Shuichi Kodaka (18) 42pts
2nd Paul Hartley (19) 37pts
3rd Alan Griffiths (11) 32pts
4thErik Donnestad (4) 30pts
5th Mark Armstrong (21) 30pts
Having just returned from a short visit to Japan, Shuichi Kodaka really took the field apart with an outstanding round of golf that finished at six under his handicap to ensure a return to the lower handicap level that he enjoyed a few weeks earlier. It was altogether a very satisfying day’s golf as it did not include any single point holes which underlined the consistency of his play.
Shuichi Kodaka.
In the event it was easily the best of the day as Paul Hartley could only marvel at the size of the difference in scoring, finishing in second place after expecting to possibly win with a one under handicap return over what is always a difficult course and made even harder with the wet conditions.
Alan Griffiths also made a positive return to Pattaya, after having been absent for just over six months and hardly having time to look at a golf course let alone play one during that time, returning a solid round for third place two ahead of Erik Donnestad and Mark Armstrong with Erik taking fourth spot with a better count back of 17 to 14 over the inward half.
Once again there were no 2’s in either division.
Back at The Haven there was a welcome for new member Rex Vidler and welcome backs for Shuichi Kodaka, Alan Griffiths and Nigel Jenkinson.
