PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, Jan. 26, Burapha A & B – Stableford

The 26th January is Australia Day but at Burapha it became Estonia day as Eero Sikka fired his first hole in one.

Playing off a H’cap of 4, Eero hit a wedge to the 128yd par 3 third hole which landed past the pin and spun back into the hole.  Congratulations Eero and thanks for the multiple bell rings back at the bar.

Welcome also to the rest of the Estonia lads and also to a number of guys who joined us from Jomtien Golf, many of whom will be joining us in Hua Hin in March.

Wednesday Jan. 28, Bangpra – Stableford

Four groups played today in our regular fortnightly early morning visit to the Bangpra course.  This is a super course and well worth a visit, but even with plenty of run it is a long course and the greens are notoriously tricky.  Sloped at 124, with the white tees rated at 72.1, all the players today had a course handicap which was higher than their Index, but today the CBA (the computerised buffer adjustment) calculated that the course played one shot harder than par, meaning that both Geoff and Rob’s 35pts equalled the par for the day.

There were no ‘2’s so we paid down to fifth.  The winner on c/b was Rob Barnes, beating Geoff Stimpson in second while Don Lehmer, playing from the silver tees, was third with 32 ahead of Stephen Blazsanyik and Tim Knight.

Outback observation: Weather – hot, muggy; Check in – efficient; Tee time – on time; Fairways – fast; Rough – light; Greens – first nine slow, second nine fast; Bunkers – good; Value for money – exceptional; Pace of play – 4hours 15mins; Drink stations open – all 5 open; Restaurant – excellent

Friday, Jan. 30, Green Valley – Stableford

With 42 players today we expected similar problems as to the previous week, i.e. not being enough caddies or carts, but everything was in order and everybody was waiting for their tee time early.

The scoring was generally on the low side with the course being rated one shot harder than par as the best score for the day came from Eddy Beilby with 39pts, playing off 18.  He won Div B from Mark Allen (37) and Mick Beresford (34).

Newcomer, John Ianson took Div C with 37pts playing off 28, from Bruce McAdam (35) and Barry McIntosh (34), and J P Maffray was the winner of Div A with 35pts playing off 11, from Kev Hamilton (34) and Geoff Stimpson (33).

There were seven ‘2’s, from Sugar Ray Handford, Jean P Maffray, Nick Shaw (8th); John Cunningham, Kevin Hamilton, Ed Turner (12th) and another for Jean P Maffray on the 16th.

Outback observation: Weather – Hazy and humid; Check in – Good; Tee time – 10 minutes early; Fairways – Slightly wind burnt on some fairways; Rough – Dry in certain areas; Greens – Very slow; Bunkers – no comment; Value for money – Good; Pace of play – 3 Hours 50 Minutes; Drink stations open – all 5 open; Restaurant – not visited
