PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

We had a few drop-outs today due to the weather but the intrepid 20 Outbackers who went to Khao Kheow (B & A) were pleasantly surprised as just before we teed-off the sun came out and there was no more rain until we were walking off the 18th green, and that was only a sprinkle.

Although it was heavy underfoot and sometimes finding a dry spot for the ball was a bit difficult but not insurmountable, we had some good scores in, particularly from Simon Spalding on one of his frequent visits from Australia with a few friends, who had 40 points off his 1 handicap (69 gross), a great round of golf mate, well done.

Most of us will spend the next day or so drying our gear out ready for Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai on Thursday and I have been told on good authority that Chiang Rai has not had the bad weather the rest of the kingdom has.  I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

The condition of Khao Kheow is improving each day as some of the surrounds the green staff have been working on are now taking shape and starting to look a lot better.

There were five ‘2’s today: three on hole A5 from Steve Mann, Simon Spaulding & Bob Philp, and two on hole B8 from Alan Ansell & Chris Sloan

Div A (0–14)

1st Simon Spaulding (1/Hi0.9) 40

2nd Owen Walkley (11/Hi10.5) 37

3rd Bob Philp (8/Hi7.8) 30

Div B (15+)

1st Alan Ansell (24/Hi22.3) 34pts

2nd Fidge Button (17/Hi15.7) 32pts

3rd Tony Barnes (16/Hi15) 32pts

Tuesday, Oct. 11, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

A small field of 11 players were quickly away on a rain drenched course, which considering the rain that has fallen recently, we were lucky to play at all, let alone get round the whole 18 holes.

Bob Green fought it out with Laong to nab her on count back as he sharpened his game ahead of Chiang Mai, taking the first spot with 37 points.  Laong played well for her second place with the same score and Dave Earthrowl, who continues to hit the ball well, took third with 35.

There was just one ‘2’ on hole 5 from Dave Earthrowl, which he chipped in!

1st Bob Green (12/Hi13.4) 37pts

2nd Laong Gatepratum (28/Hi26.5) 37pts

3rd David Earthrowl (16/Hi17) 35pts

4th Jim Payne (25/Hi26) 35pts

Wednesday, Oct. 12, Burapha – Stableford

Out of a starting field of three divisions and 30 players on the A & B loops only 20 cards were returned after the heavy rain severely disrupted the tournament.  Chris Sloan stood head and shoulders above most, returning a marvellous 40 points given the conditions and earned himself an immediate handicap cut down to 8.3.

Owen Walkley and Rod Crosswell also should be well satisfied with their 38’s and the three aforementioned were the only players to break par.

There were four ‘2’s from Jim Brackett, Keith Buchanan & Andy Butterworth on A3 and Peter Stonebridge on hole 6.

Div A (0–15)

1st Chris Sloan (12/9.1) 40pts

2nd Owen Walkley (13/Hi9.9) 38pts

3rd Dennis Pelly (14/Hi10.8) 35pts

Div B (16–18)

1st Rod Crosswell (17/Hi13.8) 38pts

2nd Keith Buchanan (18/Hi14.9) 33pts

3rd Murray Hart (16/Hi12.9) 32pts

Div C (19+)

1st Jesse Serna (39/Hi32.4) 34pts

2nd Ivan Plunkett (26/Hi21.8) 30pts

3rd Fidge Button (20/Hi15.8) 29pts
