PSC golf from The Billabong Golf Society

Monday, August 25, Silky Oak – Stableford

With just three groups playing today we got away to an early start thank goodness as we just got in as it started to pour down.  Some groups playing Green Valley only got in 15 holes as the rain was too heavy to even think about playing.  The course was in great condition with tricky greens and grand fairways on which you couldn’t get a bad lie anywhere.

A couple of drop outs today due to injuries which was quite unfortunate but we will see you next year boys, you missed a great few hours back at the Billabong with a lot of bell rings from Brett Pinnington who managed the feat of getting a hole in one on the sixteenth.  He was told there was a surprise back at the bar for him as Doddy put up 10.000 baht for the first hole in one from any player playing at a Billabong golf event.  You should have seen his face when Capt Bob presented him with the cash.  A hearty congratulations mate from all here and thanks Doddy for the donation.

There were some good scores today with 37 taking third place, the hole in one man took that placing, coming second was Mick Thomas with a fine 38 points and first place went to Rosco with 39.

Wednesday, August 27, Green Valley – Stableford

It must have been the Billabong’s lucky week as we dodged the rain yet again today at Green Valley.  We were playing for the deVere trophy, kindly sponsored by Brian Chapman of the deVere group as he does the last Wednesday of each month with the twelve winners playing for the annual trophy at the end of the year.

Today we had a somewhat depleted field but sometimes small is good for we all had a great day out and with only two ladies it was up to Capt Bob and George Barrie to look after them and a pleasure it was, as they came first and second.

Nichawan Khiaophuang (Sa) took the top spot with an amazing 42 points, certainly a great round of golf, while Boribun Bangon (Owie), Sa’s good friend, placed second on a count back over Capt Bob, both on 36 points.

The only ‘2’ of the day came on the eight, also from Owie and it was a great putt curling downhill from about 15 feet.

Friday, August 29, Plutaluang – Stableford

The monthly scramble at Plutaluang East and South, with a two tee start we were all away in record time with five groups off each tee.  There was no rain and it didn’t even threaten, but the lake is as low as the scribe has ever seen it.

The course was in good condition but the greens were different on each nine with the South greens being a little faster than East, however we all had to putt on them.  There were the usual stories about the putts that got away including my own group.  We had 17 goes at birdies and only got five in our team, but as stated we all had the same greens to putt on.

There were three new teams on the podium today, which goes to show the Courtyard Cavaliers are beatable.  There were some good scores with less than four shots from first to last place.  Third place went to the team from the Players Lounge consisting of Paul Bourke, Bob Newell, Simon Philbrook and Bobby Young with a score of 59.5; second went to Arch Armstrong, Derek Mower, Peter Rooke and Willie Mercer with a score of 59.2; but taking top spot was the team of Ted Gardner, Noi Gardner, Rick Hyatt and Tony Oakes with a great score of 58.5.

Back at the bar it was all about the fun day out everyone had.  The support for this monthly event just keeps getting better and glad to see each team having a great day out.

Note:  The Billabong is situated just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan. Give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 if you are looking for a game.
