The inaugural St. Andrews School Primary Invitational games took place on the weekend of 25/26th May with Garden International School, Kuala Lumpur, and St. Andrews, Bangkok joining the host school in a 3 team invitational tournament.

The emphasis was on getting Year 4, 5 and 6 children (aged 8-11 year olds) to enjoy friendly competition against other children and getting the opportunity to take home as many medals as possible.

The first day was the athletics and swimming competitions, taking place with all children competing in every athletics event on the day with medals going to the top 3 of each gender in each age group, while each swimming event that took place was a final, guaranteeing each participant in each race a medal.

The first day was a great success with children getting up to 15 medals throughout and there were many happy faces at the end of the day.

On the Saturday it was the turn of Tee-ball and football team sports.  The football played throughout the different age groups was a joy to watch and there were some spectacular individual and team performances from all 3 schools.

On a personal front the St Andrews School Year 6 teams took gold medals in both the Boys and Girls football and the combined Tee-ball.  St. Andrews, Green Valley performed admirably throughout as we were facing GIS, in Kuala Lumpur with over two thousand students and St. Andrews Bangkok with twice the number as Green Valley.

The tournament finished with a meal for all participants and spectators and somehow the children showed that they had energy left by having a huge game of rugby!

Coaches, parents and children were united in their belief that these games were exactly what they were intended to be.  A chance for children to enjoy sports without the usual pressures and to be able to make friends that they can keep for life.
