PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Wednesday, Jan. 14, Burapha – Stableford

With many of the boys away on the road trip (see page 38) we had just two groups and it was left to Tim to organise the day again and Peter Nixon to collect the money with 34pts, which isn’t too bad round here.

Gordon Clegg returned to the field today on a much elevated handicap index of 34, which had to be capped at 36 for this course.  However, he had enough in the tank to scramble to 32pts to take second from Tim Knight on 29, beating Ed Turner on count back.

1st Peter Nixon (11) 34pts

2nd Gordon Clegg (36) 32pts

3rd Tim Knight (26) 29pts

Friday, Jan. 16, Green Valley – Stableford

37 Outbackers played today but the day belonged to John Stafford, who playing a sweet utility club, aced the 155yd par-three 16th.  Congratulations John on your first hole in one and thank you for your generous bell ring.  John wasn’t alone in accomplishing that feat today as Rory McIlroy recorded his first professional Ace on the 177yd 15th in Abu Dhabi… but he used a 9 iron!  Different world isn’t it.

There were three divisions with Mick Beresford (Div B) recording the day’s best score of 41pts, beating Bob Finley (35) and Eddie Beilby (34).  Reijo Heiskanon won Div C with 39pts from Greg Hill (38) and Ed Turner (36), whilst the top div was won with 38pts by Ari Hagren from Jukka Kangas, who was second on c/b from Barry Copestake, both with 35s.

There were seven ‘2’s who all missed out because John Stafford’s hole-in-one scooped the entire pot.

Finally, I noted that many of the bunkers were full of foot prints!  I ask all golfers to ensure their caddies rake the bunkers properly, if not rake them themselves.

Div A (0-11)

1st Ari Hagren (08) 38pts

2nd Jukka Kangas (11) 35pts

3rd Barry Copestake (11) 35pts

2nd Greg Hill (19) 38pts

Saturday, Jan. 17, Green Valley – Stableford

Just a couple of three-balls enjoyed the Saturday comp at Green Valley as Andrew Fromholtz ripped the course apart with his best score of 78 gross, to pick up 42 points.  He won from Shaun Pullen (37), who is also on a move downwards with his handicap – well played the pair of you!

1st Andrew Fromholtz (12) 42pts

2nd Shaun Pullen (25) 37pts
