PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, August 26,Burapha – Stableford

With 35 Outbackers on tour to Hua Hin another 18 played the Burapha C and D nines in perfect weather with all groups finishing in around three and a half hours, as the course was virtually empty.

The rough was rough as usual and it was interesting to see the difference in scores between the two divisions (obviously the better golfers stayed on the fairway!) as 38 on c/b was not enough for a podium finish in Div A.  There were actually four players with 38pts; the unlucky ones being Pete Stonebridge & John O’Keefe, as Mark Allen (2nd) pipped Bob Finley (3rd) and the winner by three with 41pts was John Stafford, who has been playing very well of late.

Division B was won by Bob Lindborg with 35pts from Bruce McAdam (34) and Chris Smart, who is coming to terms with his new 28 handicap, had 33.

There were three ‘2’s from John Stafford & Peter Stonebridge on C5 and Mark Allen on C8.

Div A (0-17)

1st John Stafford (16) 41pts

2nd Mark Allen (17) 38pts

3rd Bob Finley (14) 38pts

Div B (18+)

1st Bob Lindborg (22) 35pts

2nd Bruce McAdam (28) 34pts

3rd Chris Smart (28) 33pts

Wednesday, August 28, Siam Plantation – Stableford

8 players at Plantation on the A & C nines and after the heavy overnight rain we decided to adopt the “lift, clean and place” option on the fairways and first cut areas.

Siam Plantation is still without a doubt one of the best presented courses we play and it was surprising we had the course to ourselves.  Today’s winner with 35pts was Chris Smart, who if he keeps playing this well will not be on a 28 h’cp for long!  Runner up was Geoff Stimpson with 33 and Ron Dickie third with 30 on count back.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Chris Smart (28) 35pts

2nd Geoff Stimpson (7) 33pts

3rd Tony Pike (10) 30pts

Friday, August 30, Green Valley – Stableford

With a members’ tournament at Green Valley, the 20 Outbackers were moved across to St. Andrews.  The fairways and rough were excellent but the greens were a little two paced and a lot of the bunkers were more like wet mud.

Div A was won by Peter Nixon with 37pts from John Cunningham in second, beating John O’Keefe on count back, both with 36.

Div B went Mark Allen also with 37pts with Mark Kembrey second on 35 and Waldo third with 34.

There were two ‘2’s from Joe Mooneyham (5th) and John O’Keefe (17th).

Div A (0-15)

1st Peter Nixon (11) 37pts

2nd John Cunningham (6) 36pts

3rd John O’Keefe (14) 36pts

Div B (16+)

1st Mark Allen (17) 37pts

2nd Mark Kembrey (19) 35pts

3rd Stephen Blazsanyik (17) 34pts
