PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, June 6, Plantation – Stableford
1st Ron Dickie (7) 38pts
2nd Adam Farrell (12) 34pts
3rd Thomas-Joer Luescher (20) 33pts
The second competition for this Monday was reasonably well attended considering that we also had a large field at Burapha on this low season month.
Our groups played Tapioca followed by Sugar Cane and whilst Ron Dickie hasn’t been on form lately, this all changed today he had a great round of 77 gross to give him 38 points. Aussie tourer Adam Farrell did well with 34 to finish second while Thomas-Joer Luescher was third a further point back.
Mark Riggall played the par 3’s really well to finish level par on them and had the only ‘2’ of the day on hole-6 (Tapioca)
Monday, June 6, Burapha – Stableford
1st Ivan Plunkett (28) 41pts
2nd James Little (23) 38pts
3rd Phil Hill (27) 38pts
4th George Hensher (33) 37pts
5th Peter Nixon (10) 36pts
A good turn out for us today at Burapha considering that we had the parallel competition going at Plantation. Playing A & B today, everyone was happy seeing the lovely Tawan handling the start and I keep getting reminded by the players that they’d much rather hand over the competition fee to Tawan rather than me!
Slowly getting back to form now that his handicap is creeping up again, Peter Nixon finished in fifth spot with 36 points. In fourth place, George Hensher was in the prizes again after handing in a 37-pointer while third went to Aussie tourer and great supporter Phil Hill with a great 38 points, being beaten by Jimmy Little on count back. Ivan Plunkett had a great round with 41 points, and I should probably think of pushing play back to the blue tees if Ivan starts getting out of hand with his wins at Burapha.
Wednesday, June 8, Greenwood – Stableford
1st Mathias Hermann (13) 38pts
2nd Greg Braemar (27) 33pts
3rd Adam Farrell (14) 32pts
4th Steve Rawlings (5) 32pts
Mainly supporting the monthly PSC tournament at Green Valley, the Outback had just a small group playing Greenwood today as our alternate competition. Adam Farrell and Steve Rawlings, playing from the blue tees, both had 32 points for third/fourth places, with Greg Braemar scoring 33 points for second and Mathias Hermann playing some beautiful golf to finish with 38 points and take the win.
Friday, June 10, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st John Stafford (16) 43pts
2nd Tony Oakes (12) 42pts
3rd Jean Maffray (16) 39pts
4th Peter C Nixon (11) 38pts
B Flight
1st Keith Allen (20) 40pts
2nd Robert Mattes (22) 37pts
3rd Sugar Ray Handford (19) 37pts
4th Stefan Hoge (21) 36pts
We had a very good low season turnout today with 35 players (31 competitors) at Green Valley. No doubt everyone enjoyed playing the course after the Singha tournament and word from the players came back that the greens were in good nick.
Playing in two divisions, with the handicap cutoff at 0-19 for A div and 20 up for B division, fourth place in B division went to Stefan Hoge, with Sugar Ray getting ready for Chiang Mai trip with 37 points taking third spot. In second place and beating Sugar on count back was Bob Mattes but it was Keith Allen who walked off with the honours after a cracking 40 point score.
Scoring in the A division was really high, proving again that our courses generally play progressively harder for the higher handicappers and therefore justifying once again using the USGA slope index rules to determine playing handicap.
With 38 points, Peter Nixon was in the prizes for the second time this week while JP Maffray, who hasn’t been playing to form lately, scored a great 39 points for third. Tony Oakes must have thought that he had won on 42 points but John Stafford clinched first by going one better and posting the top score of the week.
Tony Oakes and Steve Compton were the only players to record a ‘2’ today.
