Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, March 14, Pattana – Stableford

We were allocated the A and B nines today and just before our tee off there was a shotgun start for 65 golfers from New Delhi who were staying at the course for four nights.  The marshalls did a brilliant job on the time scheduling but due to slow players it was a two and half hour front nine for us, but it did speed up slightly on the back nine.

There were two divisions out today with the cut at 9-17 and 18+, and Chris Voller returned the best score of the day to win division 1 with 35 points.  Bryan Rought came in second one point behind and Paul Butler was third with 33 points.

Mikael Andersson.

In division 2, Vio Serban beat Magne Gunnarson on a 17/14 back nine count back to take top spot and William Chang was third after also beating Curtis Hessler on a count back, both returning scores of 33 points.

Since our last visit here the A course condition has improved but the greens were very slow today, no complaints on the B nine.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Paul Butler, Per Forsberg, Bryan Rought and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) John Walsh and Harry Vincenzi (2).

There were no ‘2’s in division 1 so a rollover to Silky Oak on Wednesday and in division 2 John Walsh birdied A3 to claim the double rollovers pot.

Wednesday, March 16, Silky Oak – Stableford

An almost identical cut as of Monday in the two divisions and Howard Stanley, playing off 19, recorded the best score of the day to win division 2 with 38 points.  Johnny Walsh was second four points behind on 34 and Magne Gunnarson came in third with 31.

The South African boy Jerry Sweetnam topped division 1 with 36 points and in second place Paul Butler beat Dave Kessler 18/15 on the back nine after they both came in with 33 points each.

The rough here today on the course was a true test of golf and the greens were very tough and bobbly.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Terry Madsen, Jerry Sweetnam and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Dave Kessler, Paul Sturgeon, John Walsh and Michel Yerly.

Dave Horne birdied the 16th and in division 2 Geoff Stubbs the 3rd to record the only ‘2’s of the day.

Friday, March 18, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were seven groups out today and nobody in front of us so we teed off 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

It was an equal cut at 6-14 and Tony Thorne cames in with 39 points to win division 2 while there were three 34-pointers fighting for second place; Paul Hartley getting the nod as Darryl Blair beat Max Wilson 11/10 on the back six to take third place.

Michel Yerly.

Per Forsberg topped division 1 standings with 33 points and in second place Alan Thomas beat Arthur Hancock 18/11 on the back nine after they both came in with 32 points apeice.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Mikael Andersson, Khalifa Nasser and Mesa Takano, and (Div 2) John Fenwick and Paul Hartley.

Alan Thomas and Chris Voller birdied the 13th while in division 2 there are two rollovers to Eastern Star next Friday.
