PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society
Monday, March 23, Pleasant Valley – Stableford
The day started off well as we nearly had a full field and arrived at the course in plenty of time but then Reverend Dick rang to say he had just had his second puncture of the morning and was stranded on Number 7 about 5 kilometres away with himself and 3 other golfers on board. I quickly dispatched Thomas with the minivan and he picked 2 of them up and Reverend Dick and Wan arrived not too long after, still in plenty of time for our tee off.
Freddy Starbeck & Chris Reed.
But that was not all – the first group hit off right on time at 10.12am and one of their golf carts strayed off the cart path about 25 yards from the first tee and got bogged! A replacement cart eventually arrived and the round commenced in fine but hot weather on a golf course that was somewhat wet due to overwatering and the greens were quite slow and took some getting used to. Still a fine course though and well worth the money with a 100 baht cheaper Green Fee Voucher (650 baht) kicking in next month (April). We all played at a good pace and most of our rounds were completed in about four hours.
Phantom Bar Mine Host Christian Boysen once again turned it on and won the A Flight with a fine 39 points. 2 points ahead of Dave Edwards in second place and your writer, Peter Blackburn once again crept into third spot with 35 points.
In B Flight Tony Cook was the winner with 36 points and John Swanson came second on 33. A count back was required to determine third place with 2 golfers on 32 points and it was Nat Rukkid (14 point back nine) who prevailed ahead of Torben Lindgaard (12 point back nine).

Friday, March 27, Phoenix (Mountain & Lake) – Stableford
Yet another very good field for our Fridays at Phoenix competition and we teed off Mountain 1 right on time at 10.32am on a fine, cloudy and not too hot day. The course was once again in fine condition although some of the greens on Lake nine were a bit sandy and bumpy but otherwise all was fine. The going was good and fairly quick with most getting around in a little over four hours.
Christian Boysen & Tony Cook.
Freddy Starbeck was the winner in A Flight with 39 points and Peter Hynard (van driver for the day) came second one point further back, with Thierry Petrement finding some form to finish third on 37 points. Two golfers with 35 points meant a count back for fourth place which went to your writer, Peter Blackburn (18 point back nine) and Ken Hole (15 point back nine) just missed out.
The best score of the day was 41 points scored by Chris Reed who was the winner in B Flight and Wan Makmul finished second with 38. Pierre Bietry came third on 36 points and another count back for fourth with two on 35 points saw Thierry Temime (17 point back nine) edging out Stephen Newton (16 point back nine).
