Twenty-three golfers with high expectations gathered at the Growling Swan for our first trip to Phoenix.  I am not sure as to why we don’t go to this course more often as traveling time is certainly in its favor.

The weather was somewhat warm but a little overcast.  The first nine we played it was a little uncomfortable to start (weather wise).  The back nine was better as the temperature dropped and we got through with no rain to mention.

What a fantastic course, and it was in great nick!  We played Lake and Ocean 9’s from the white tees and this would have to be one of the best courses that many of us have played at, with its the top notch facilities and the staff out to help and make your day enjoyable.

The scores were not fantastic but you could put that down to fact that it is a tough course.  Playing 2 flights it was George McEwan who took out A Flight from Bill Steinmann, with Peter Bailey filling third spot.  B Flight saw Glenn Smith scale the podium once again to take the chocolates from Sandy Leiper and Peter Grey.

It had been sometime since we played out at Emerald GC, so with 23 enthusiastic golfers we set out not really knowing what to expect.  Pattaya had been hit with plenty of rain up till about 6 a.m., so we were somewhat uncertain what the outcome would be.

We arrived to see that the course looked to be in great shape, there were patches off water on the fairways but nothing to be concerned about.  Playing from the white tees we introduced “pick, clean and place” as there was evidence of water and what looked to be a lack of run.

Two flights were the order of the day, A-Flight (0 to 17) was taken out by Bill Steinmann amassing 41 points, and creating plenty of space between he and the next place getter.  In taking spot was Steve Younger, beating Martin Todd on a count back.

B Flight saw newcomer Andy Zwart take the top prize rather comfortably from Niall Stuart, while Troy Pickford claimed third place after getting the nod over The Colonel on count back.
